Wedding Makeup

I have a few wedding makeup questions.

I was just wondering if most people had their make-up done for their wedding or if they did it themselves? Did you go for a different look then your everyday makeup? How did it look in the photos?

Would you looking back do it differently?

I did my own makeup. My biggest challenge was that we got married in Hawaii-major humidity!! I used a bit more eye liner and mascara. Probably the biggest difference was I used a long wear lipstick. I tired several before the wedding. (I can't stand long wearing lipstick. I'm much more of a lip gloss girl!) I ended up using Almay. It definitely stayed on and looked good in the pictures. The only makeup related photo issues I had was looking a bit dewey in the humidity!

It would have been fun to have someone do my makeup. At the same time I would have been afraid of it all melting off. Since I did it myself, I used all the hard-core, long wearing, need paint thinner to take it off formulas I could find.

You're not supposed to wear shimmer if you're having photos taken. Supposedly it will look like you're sweating!

I did my normal makeup. I didn't want to look too made up, so I kept it somewhat natural. I made sure I put on plenty of blush so that I would look like I had color - but that isn't different from every day!

Another thing to consider is the type of pictures you are going to order. If your lipstick (or gloss) is dark enough, it can come out looking almost black in black and White photography.

Personally, I would spend the extra $$ to have my make-up done. People often forget that doing everyday makeup is different than doing make up for film (tv or photography).

Thanks ladies. I appreciate the advice. I never realized that the wedding would be this much work and planning. So many decisions about details!

I'm doing my own makeup for my upcoming wedding.

I didn't like any of the makeup artists I tried out. I want a natural look, but most of the MUA's just don't get it. It was such a waste of my time. I was expecting a lot better.

I do not want to look like a Vegas Showgirl on my pictures! :x

Congratulations An Akasha on your upcoming wedding!

Could you keep us posted on the brands of makeup that you finally decide to use and how they held up?

I'm getting married next year, and I'm now starting to look into everything including makeup.

I'm definitely with BlondieCurl on the longwearing lipstick. I don't like it for everyday use (after awhile it breaks me out) but for my wedding, it's going to be used.

Once again congrats to you as well as all of the other curlies who'll be getting married :D

Thank you! And congratulations to you, too.

I'll let you know what works best for me.

I'm still doing funny test runs on makeup--like putting on the makeup, then working out to see how it holds up under REAL stress.

I did my own makeup and it was just fine. I was worried about looking too made up also. I used Smashbox Photo Finish under my foundation, which worked very well. I also didn't use lipstick, I used gloss instead, but then again, I really prefer my own lip color.

My makeup turned out great. The only problem I had with the way that I looked was my nose was red and my eyes were a little puffy from all the crying I was doing!!! Not much I could do about that!

It is tricky finding a really good one. I had one supposed makeup artist do a test run on me and turns out all she wanted was to sell me products, plus the look she gave me was terrible. However, by chance I found one at a beauty salon and she did an absolutely fantastic job--she made me feel like Cinderella on my wedding day. I wasn't confident enough in my abilities to make myself look extra special on my wedding day so I was really happy with my decision to use a makeup artist. Anyway, if you decide to do that, definitely have a trial run before the big day and make notes about what colors etc. were used.

Usually make-up artists who work at a department store counter are also trying to sell you something.

I don't know if you have these stores in the States, but I know for a fact that the MAC makeup artists do amazing work on brides. I've had several friends get their wedding makeup done at MAC and they were all so pleased with the results.

I am looking into a few people that were rec's from other girls in the area. I intend to talk to them all and set up some trials with a few. Part of my problem is that my wedding is at 10:30am and so they would have to be willing to work outside salon hours.

I think I am going to get someone. No matter how I try and do my make-up I always feel like it comes out the same. I want to look special, plus I am not sure what is best for photography. I want my album (and me) to be stunning. :D

    Thanks all!
