Applying Foundation

I was just wondering what you use to apply foundation.

I've heard different things, that you should just use your fingers, that you should use a damp sponge or a brush? Any ideas?

I think it totally depends on the type of foundation you are using.

I use a mineral foundation and use a brush. When I used a liquid foundation I used the sponge wedges, when I used a cream to powder foundation I used my fingers.

I am not sure if that is "right" it just happens to be how I did it. What type of foundation are you using?

Ooh I hadn't thought of it like that, different application for different type of foundation, thank you.

I use a liquid foundation, not sure that's the best thing though as it always seems to rub off within a couple of hours.

    Thanks for your help

I use a liquid foundation and I use a sponge, just because I don't like to touch my face anymore than I have too.

I use a foundation brush or flocked sponge to apply foundation.

I use a brush as i think it is great, the best tip i can give is that when you put on your moisturiser leave it for about 5 or 10 mins and then apply your foundation and again leave this for 5 or 10 mins and then apply your powder as that is what i do and i have noticed that it always stays in place

How come you didn't mention mineral foundation? I used to hate foundation and seldom wore it because it was so messy to apply and looked bad. But since I found mineral foundation (there are many brands, the most commonly-known is Bare Escentuals), I now wear foundation every day. It is so much easier to apply and looks about a million times better than the liquid gunk. Plus, mineral foundation doesn't cause skin problems and clog pores like liquids and creams do.

i've never tried mineral foundation and even with ALL the companies that sell it now, they still comprise less than 2% of the entire cosmetic market in North America.

and call me skeptical, but i don't believe the hype about ANYTHING until i've tried it myself.

You should try it then, because, seeing is believing. :)

Most of the smaller companies offer samples for just a small amount of money, so you can try it easily enough without investing a fortune (like Bare Escentuals charges). Here's a forum for mineral makeup afficianados. On the first page is a long list of links to some of the companies. Nearly all of them offer samples:

Sometimes I use mac's foundation brush although it seems to go on heavier with the brush. More often than not I use my fingers.
