spin off poll: how long does your color job last?

dulcemulatta84 got me thinking. She asked, "Have you been satisfied with your at home color results 4 months after your initial at home color application?"

My answer is an emphatic "NO!", but my answer would be the same had she asked about salon color. My roots start showing after 4 weeks (which is normal given that the average for hair growth is 1/2 inch per month), and after a 8 weeks my color will definitely have faded somewhat. After 12 weeks any brown dye will get fairly brassy on me.

I just can't imagine any dye lasting longer than 8-10 weeks, at maximum. This made me wonder if that's normal, though.

How about you guys? Am I the oddball here?

I chose: 4-6 weeks, do color myself.

I chose this because, like you, my roots show badly (gray) in about 4 weeks. However, I don't recolor the rest but every 12 weeks or so, since it doesn't fade too fast or turn brassy on me. (Love my RC Color!) :)

I'm taking your advice and saving my RC color to use on my roots when they grays start showing again. Shoot, the grays are already showing. In a couple more weeks I may wind up doing another strand test and trying again with it.

Depends on what I'm using. Demi-perms fade almost
completely in 2 weeks. Permanent colors go brassy
starting around 3 weeks, more so near my roots.
The henna I did last August is still there and
    has barely faded.
    wavy / coarse / thick
