I haven't seen this story on here yet. Do you have a link?

A black co-worker got called a n***** in the voting line of all places. She is young, and this was her first time in a Presidential election, so this was especially disheartening.

My SIL now gripes that the Muslim n*****s are in charge and in power and that the country will go downhill now because of that. I just want to slap her.

All the racists I know are much more covert about their ignorant hatred.

Really all I have to go on is my perception which is that I've been treated more positively. Less invisible...taken more seriously. But I think the change maybe more from myself than other people.

I haven't witnessed or heard of any racist attacks though.

That is awful. Sadly, it shows that while we have come a long way, we haven't reached the finish line yet. Of course, there will always be some idiots in this world.

I know about the KKK but what exactly is the meaning behind the burned cross?

    To summon the clan:
In Scotland the "fiery cross", known as the Crann Tara, was used as a declaration of war. The sight of it commanded all clan members to rally to the defense of the area. On other occasions, a small burning cross would be carried from town to town. The practice is described in the novels and poetry of Sir Walter Scott.

My creative writing teacher has an Obama '08 sticker on his car. His wife was driving with their two kids when a guy in a truck rolled down his window and said n-word (except, you know, he actually said it) lover. She ignores him and goes to a gas station. He FOLLOWS her, and says 'f-ing n-lover' things about her being hispanic, their kids being mixed blood, and that she should have aborted them. A man finally called the police.

    Scary. Very very scary.

I think it's all race oriented. I can't get over the negativity I hear people talk about Obama. I can't think of what he has done that would be cause for the negativity toward him.

No, I hadn't heard it but I'm not surprised. My ex's son had something happen at his school since Obama won the election. He's one of maybe six Black kids at his school in Portland, Maine and after Obama won, kids were saying stuff like, "A n-gger shouldn't be running this country" and stuff like that to him. Then when he went into the restroom at the school, there was grafitti calling Obama a n-gger and KKK signs in there. It made the news up there and they interviewed him. The schools response to this bothers me. They tried to silence him concerning the events, but he refused to. I'm glad he didn't.

Definitely puts down the comments from people saying that 'all that racial stuff is in the past'. I'm so sick of hearing that mess. It's not in the past. People who dealt with a lot of this stuff - getting hosed down, getting called *****s/******s, having to ride on the back of the bus, etc, are still alive. A lot of people who have done with are still alive and are teaching that it is ok to their children.

What in the hell is wrong with people? I can't wrap my mind around all this hate, I just can't. People should not be capable of this ********. This kind of crap seriously disturbs me. If it affects me to the point of not being able to sleep at night, how can these hateful *******s sleep at night, or look at themselves in the mirror?

Unfortunately it's not over. They had burning of Obama/Biden signs and hanging of nooses at a local christian university last Wednesday.

    Very disturbing!

My kids came home from school and told me that some of their classmates didn't think it was a big deal that Obama won since he was going to be assasinated

To the first bolded. Tht makes it seem even more hateful coming from a bunch of supposedly religious people.

For the second, I've heard this sentiment a few times, almost along the lines of relief that he would be assassinated.

Some people are just effed up.

I've heard the second bolded, too. But the idea inferred was, "why vote for him, he'll just get assasinated if he wins." This came from an intelligent, normally reasonable person. I was astounded.

I'm originally from there and my mom told me about this. I couldn't believe it. I don't see how these people sleep at night. They will one day burn in hell.
