Oh the Kooks here on this board are harmless. If they were making threats about someone's safety, that's different. There are sociopathic kooks, and that should be taken seriously.
However, it can be entertaining reading what they say. I need a good laugh from time to time. I sometimes post in response to a kook, but usually I just read it and laugh.

I think if everyone had that attitude when dealing with a kook, it wouldn't be so bad. Many people get offended. And it's your right to be offended, but you don't have to be. Remember that many kooks post for shock value or they are truly insane and think their posts are rational. I feel sorry for the second group and I think many people try to "correct" them from their irrational posts...not sure if that will work though.

We all have different responses to what people post, kooky or not. Some people just have to feed the kooks, it's ingrained in them. Some will do so at times but can hold themselves back usually.
Don't worry about it if someone feeds the kooks or if you have a momentarily lapse of reason and feed the kooks too. It can happen to the best of us.

And when dealing with politics/ religion, there will be kooks from both sides of the fence. It's just reality. Most of us can have differing views and not be kooks...but occasoinally, a kook gets thrown in there. Just look at it as a pleasant surprise. And, yeah, creative moments can happen from it, like Obamatron T-shirts!!!
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

to be honest, i don't think they are.

unfortunately, i'd say the latest crop that's shown up here in order to "save" all of you from first the potential and now actual outcome of your election fall into that last category.

in my country, hate speech of the variety that is being spread by the extreme-right-wing members here on this board is acutally criminal. and it IS hate-speech - there is no factual basis for much of their meanderings.

i put them on ignore for a reason...

i wish people i admire would stop quoting and quoting and quoting ad-nauseum... it just encourages the kooks.

I think the quoting of people who say downright ridiculous things is a pretty valuable thing to do. That way when they come back in a week, edit their post and claim they never said any such thing, we have proof that they did.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."

Yes, some people habitually edit their posts.

It's also helpful when someone deletes the OP after the thread turns into a train wreck, and half the board doesn't know what the drama is about.

    I hate that.

I've done it twice, both times to obvious trolls who have since been banned. It did mellow out the drama unless said person got quoted.

I've thought about it again but am undecided. I see the point for trolls, but remain undecided on intentional $hit-stirrers who are real, and the racist or two who also happen to be real.
