No, but I tried the "feels like silk" gel and it worked pretty well for a $2.99 bootleg beauty-supply product (the spot I was in was JACKED). A little goes a long way with the gel. Is the product your asking about a moisturizer?
  • saskennsaskenn Posts: 18Registered Users
Yes I have it's a good water based moisturizer, I usually use a small amount about the size of a half dollar (I have thick hair) and seal it with coconut oil, my hair is soft and moisturized for atleast 5 days.

The scent was a bit nauseating for me. Also, it left my hair feeling a little waxy.

I was about to purchase it last weekend but decided against it when I found that it contains lanolin. I read somewhere that lanolin is quite similar to mineral oil in that it sits on top of the hair and does not penetrate the hair shaft.

ETA: Still researching this b/c there are mixed reviews. But I'm going to stay away from it for now.

Waxy products don't work for natural hair at all. Thank goodness I asked before diving into this purchase.

    I have some. Ingredients are:

Aqua(Purified water), squalane (ilive oil derived), caprylic/capric tirglyceride (coconut oil derived), peg-75 lanolin, behntrimonium methosulfate, hexadecanol, cetearyl alcohol, ceterareth-20, dimethicone, phenyl trimethicone, magifera indica (MANGO) seed butter, theobroma cacao (COCOA) seed butter, hydrolyzed silk, serica, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, fragrance, fd&c yellow no. 5 (CI 19140).

So as you can see the lanolin is peg-modified, but it does have cones. I use it to moisturize the ends of my twists and that's about it. It definitely would not work for an out style for me.

Yes! When I first went natural, this stuff was a godsend. I am going back to it and it's relatives, DPR-11 for deep conditionings, and Hi-Two as a leave in.

Ladies, you have me torn. Idk my experimental side wants to buy it just to see, my more rational side is telling me stay away from the parabens and lanolin. What to do what to do?

I have some too... I would not rec for out styles but using it to slick down a puff or bun rather than gel works well for me.

I am a modified CG so I do use the mango butter. I really love it. I can get it on the ground (always a plus) It is under $10 (another plus) It leaves my hair soft and moisturized for a few days. If I start to notice build up I poo with a sulfate free or use a litlle baking soda in my co wash. I really like this stuff.

I used it last year when I was wearing twists a lot and it made them look really pretty!

Yep, I've been using it off and on for years. It really helps define my curls.

Because I am such a pj I went back on my word and bought it this past weekend. I have to say the ingredients aside, this is the bomb. Winter has returned with a vengeance; my hair was dry and brittle and would not take to the oils and moisturizers that I have. I used the mango butter on Sunday and my hair is still soft and silky today. I love it. I would strongly recommend trying it if you are looking for something to combat the effects of cold weather.

Elasta QP makes really good products for the price. They are manufactured/owned by the same company that makes Kenra products and Elucence products. Not to mention, a LOT of thier products are exact replicas of the Elucence and Kenra products.

I've tried basicly all of the Elasta QP products...some I LOVE...others not so much. The ones I would DEF recommend are

Feels like silk (my HG gel..nothing else even comes close)
DPR-11 Deep Conditioner (use w/ heat and have hair like BUTTER!!!)
Intensive Protien Serum (and EXACT match for the Elucence protein treatment serum...a very gentle protien treatment and no nasty smell like aphogee)
Conditioning Shampoo (those of you that LOVED the original creme of nature, this one is almost identical)

I tried the mango butter, but I really didn't like it that much. It felt weird on my hair. I must admit though, I only tried it once and never really fully experiemented with it.

NCC thanks for the info. You are totally enabling my pj tendencies, lol. I am in need of a really good hair gel; something that doesn't dry hard but holds the fuzzies. I am also interested in trying the deep conditioner.

I really wanted to like the mango butter but it didn't work well for me at all. It was probably the cone and lanolin...

I tried it before my bc. I didn't like it. It did nothing for me. Probably won't retry because I'm trying to stick to all-natural products.

I use it from time to time, but I'm not sure if it's truly moisturizing. It gives my hair an emollient is-it-greasy-or-is-it-not? kind of feel. My hair feels really soft when I rub my fingers through it, but my fingers have a faint residue and feel soft afterwards, also.

If it had mre of the bolded ingredient it might work, but it was too waxy for me rather than buttery, and the fragrance was too strong.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.

I tried it early on after my BC and loved it then. Now, after trying real mango butter melted down with a little castor oil, I would never buy it again. I love butters and the stuff off the shelf is such poor quality in comparison to the real butters. I guess I've gotten spoiled... Also, I find I use less of the actual butters so the cost isn't a big trade off. It may be worth checking into.

I love qp elasta mango butter mixed with coconut oil as a styler. Otherwise it has a little too much water which tends to make my hair frizzy.

I just recently bought some & I really like how light it is. I also mix either with olive oil or coconut oil. I use it on my son & daughter's hair. I can't use it because it has silicones in it.

It worked well for me when I flat ironed my hair. I wouldn't use it if you're natural though, it seems to just...sit there.
  • DominaDomina Posts: 75Registered Users
it sat on my hair too. i wish it were more buttery and less waxy lotion like. i like my butters to have a wet feel to them. mango butter might be a good sealer
