curl refreshing spray?

Hello! I want to try to make a spray that can revive my curls and reduce the frizz. I'm not sure if that explains it correctly :/

I want something that can make my curls come alive on second hair days and such. I was thinking of trying something with honey or if anyone else has any other ideas or recommendations, it would be great!

Thank you :D

Here's one that Loraine Massey recommends in Curly Girl:

    Lavender Mist
    1/2 Gallon water
5 drops pure (not synthetic) lavender essential oil
    empty spray bottles

    1. Fill a large pot with a half gallon of water.
    2. Cover, bring to a boil, and simmer for an hour to get rid of impurities. Check occasionally to make sure water isn't boiling away.
    3. Remove from heat, add lavender oil, stir, and replace lid.
    4. Let steep until cool, then pour into empty spritz bottles.

I hope to try this soon; I have no idea how well it works, though. Though it will smell nice.

I've tried that recipe and it's great. Be sure to not overdo the lavender oil. It can be drying. :) Seems like one of her recipes has glycerin too. It's the curly girl book.

eta or something like glycerin... I'll have to look.

It depends on what your hair likes to "eat."

Honey, glycerin, aloe water, and maybe a watery leave in would make a nice refresher spray.
Wavy, curly on the ends, 2C.
Coarse to medium textured, porous, dry, and lots of it.

I have the CG book and tried her lavender spray and didn't really care for it. I thought it lost the lavender scent pretty quickly, now it just doesn't have a scent at all.
I am wondering if making a spray gel and adding the lavender would work.
I did use the actual pure essential oil and not an artificial derivative, too.

Deva Set It Free, No-Poo, and One Condish
    MOP-C Curl Defining Cream
BedHead Manipulator or Deva Set Me Up! to finish it off.

The only way I like the Lavender Spray is when I put 11-12 drops in a Gallon of Distilled Water. I wait until it's just about empty and then I keep adding fresh Distilled Water to the same Jug. That way the smell stays nice and strong, I add more drops as I add more water but keep using the same Jug!!

My favorite curl refresher is 1/2 FOTE 1/2 Lavender Water in a FRESH water bottle used only for that purpose. I never reuse bottles to avoid any kind of bacteria, I just buy the cheapo ones at Walmart when I make a new concoction :)

Just tried a new mixture today as a refresher spray. I added a couple of pumps of KBB Nectar to a 2oz spray bottle then filled with water. Worked great at perking up my second day hair and lasted all day. (I'm assuming the KBB milk and super silky would also work for this but it was humid out today so that's why I picked the nectar.)

I really like this new combo for my hair! I use a 50/50 mix of FOTE/Lavender Water and added a few drops of Jojoba oil to a 2oz spray bottle. I got less Frizz than I normally would using just Water or the 50/50 mix.

I found a way to have second, third, fourth or eevn fifth day hair by applying some curl crème or leave-in condish the night to hair the night before (not wet hair obiously) then plop all night and in the morning, i mix some of my conditioner and water in a spray bottle as a perk-me-up spray for curls, it does help a lot and curls are bouncy, thanks to overnight plopping, plus i don't have to rush in the morning

I tried this method last night and I had GREAT hair today! I was really surprised! Not sure if I did exactly what you said -- do you dampen your hair first at all? -- and I didn't even bother with any spray in the morning. :happy2:
    Here's what I did:
I thinned out some of my GVP Conditioning Balm with a little water and put a little in very wet hands and smoothed & scrunched it in, adding a bit more and wetting my hands more, several times, until my hair was somewhat damp and I'd scrunched and smoothed a little CO all over. Then I loosely plopped into my floursack towel and went to sleep (or tried to). The one downside for me is I don't sleep well with my head in the plop because of the knot.
In the morning I de-plopped and I had great big bouncy waves and a lot of volume and very little frizz. Then I took a little JCN&S, rubbed it over my hands, and scrunched into my hair and fluffed at the roots. My hair looked REALLY good all day with this. I can't wait to try this again and see if I get consistent results. Wet plopping and plopping with very damp hair after washing hasn't worked well for me before; this worked much better. THANK YOU for posting this! :thumbright:

My current spritz is a pinch of epsom salt, a good squeeze of "hair snot", and some Fermodyl since I just colored my hair again.

You can find the recipe for hair snot in the wiki in my sig.

In the past, I have had some success with adding a couple of squirts of conditioner to a water bottle.
Hair type: Mostly 3C, medium porosity to high porosity depending on the day, dense, fluffy, dry, tangly!

Well try to make your with like aloe, tea, honey, diluted conditioner, rose water, infused vinegar and more. I've tried all of those and they all work pretty well depending on your hair.
