I think I will cry if/when he wins.

I'm kind of in shock about it all. After 8 years of Bush, what a great catharsis.

I'm old enough to know how awesome this is. I'm feeling an incredible sense of wonder and gratitude that so many people are voting their conscience. It's a history moment.

You're certainly not. I almost refuse to believe it.

Almost. I'm so ecstatic I don't want to wake up tomorrow and find out we were wrong, or that it was a dream.
"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."

I don't remember actually feeling positive about a Presidential candidate. The fact I feel positive about him, that he has magic you can feel when he speaks, and some pretty good policies and brains to back it up... I forget that this is a historical election, because I can't imagine voting for him because of race - since for me it was simply a matter of he was far and away the better candidate for my stance.

Then I realize how historic this is as far as race and our putrid history as a country goes. And forget to breathe.

Nope, you're not the only one.

Well said, NetG. It's one thing to vote for a candidate whose views are most similar to one's own (or to almost feel you may be simply choosing the lesser of two evils), but to actually feel so proud and excited and inspired by someone like Obama...well, there just are no words. My feelings are ranging between giddiness and tears of joy and hope. :compress:

I feel the same way. I don't know if you meant this b/c of his race or not, but I mean it from the hope, dreams, and positive direction I think he can take the US.

I'm a 41 yr old, college educated, white, SAHM. I understand the importance of the first black president, but I hope his race isn't the main focus of his presidency. I voted for him b/c I believe in him and what he stands for. I wouldn't vote for someone just b/c of their race, sex, political party, etc - I vote for the person.

I'd like to see some emphasis on his education, work ethic, family values, community service, goals, not just his race. There are less than good black people just as there are less than good white people/women/moms/etc.

PS I hope they leave his beautiful daughters alone so they can have as normal a childhood as possible.

    GOD NO!

The first thing that I did this morning was turn on CNN to make sure that there were no "upsets" in the electoral college count!

I'm 37 years old. I've heard "you only got into that school because you are black" and "you only got that job because you are black" many times in my life. Today I am hopeful that my children will grow up without ever hearing that.

It still hasn't set for me. I'm still in the wow stage and still just tearing up thinking about huge the margin of victory was for him.

I too listened to the news this morning, just to make sure it was true. Without all 100 percent of votes being counted, there was a little bit of...what if...what if the projection was untrue?
I was happy last night, kept waking up thinking about Obama being president, and happy this morning.

    Yay!!!
