    Hi ladies,

I am looking for a good salon in Austin, TX that does twists, braids, and flat iron/pressing.

    Thanks

    Hello Frizzybarbie,

I moved to Austin and I had a hard time finding someone to do my hair relaxed and natural. I have been everywhere relaxed and at the end of 2007 I had had enough and my hair was falling out.

What initially attracted me to Naturallycurly.com is I did a search on google for healthy hair in Austin and I found NC. A lady from Austin was featured on the NC article name "Webjockey" she's from Austin. I emailed her on NC for advice in Austin. She advised me to BC my own hair.

I did find Braids of Africa in Austin.
    www.braidsofafrica.com
The owner, Catherine, helped me and my sister transition. This is the only place in Austin I recommend!

Some people in Austin are not experienced and they are practicing natural hair at your expense.
I wore braids for six months to transition and I BC my own hair and my sisters. I have been wearing a curly afro since July 2008 and I love it. I do my own hair, mainly the twist out hair style.

    Last relaxer Dec. 07;
Transitioned Feb. 08-July 08, BC in July 08.

Hair style: Sisterlocks - October 2009
I am no longer wearing my loose natural hair.
You may still contact me with questions regarding transitioning and natural hair.

I never found anyone who could do twists in austin other than Kaylene Childers. Her website is:

In terms of hair color/highlights/blow-outs/flat ironing/trimming I always went to the Aveda salon called JR Salon, which stands for Jackson Ruiz. There is an asian lady at JR salon who is the best. She does our type of hair really well. Her kids have type 3, type 4 hair so she knows what she is doing. I can't remember her name off the top of my head, but I will post back and let you know.

The link for JR Salon is:

They are a gratuity free salon and offer you wine/tea and complimentary scalp and hand massage. Plus they don't double book appointments, so you can get in and out quickly. I miss that place!!

I go to this place when I want my hair braided, her name is keshia mitchell and she is an excellent braider. She actually braided my hair for a wedding I was in back in may.

    Gabrielle's Salon & Day Spa
    9012 Research Blvd, Suite C7
    Austin, Texas 78758
    Tel: (512) 323-0798

When I want a rodset, I go to Janiece Henderson, she is located in RoundRock

    Court Yard Salon
    Fax: (51) 323-0799

I've included the braids and the rodset I got from each person.

ETA: finding a place in austin texas that does natural hair is hard to find. I've been on this journey for 3 yrs, even went to a couple of places that were listed above. Good luck with finding someone, and let us know if you do!

I am looking for a GOOD stylist that can cut and style my hair. I live in Plfugerville,tx and can't seem to find anyone. I am scared to go to anybody. I want my hair cut short. I heard of some people but then I see bad reviews, although someone recommeded a lady name Janiece Henderson at the Courtyard Salon in Round Rock. Have anyone heard of her or have any suggestions. Once again I want someone that is GOOD with cutting hair.

    bumping for you ladies...

I am in the ATX and the few times I got my hair "TRIMMED" it ended up being a CUTTT. I learned how to do my own twists and braids because I couldnt find anyone to do it without taking out my follicles :blob6:

I go to Tanya Steele at Peacock Salon in South Austin but she just did a groupon and is totally booked. I really don't want to go somewhere else, but if there's a good one I'm willing to consider.

I went to Regis in Highland Mall and Maria did a great job of blowdrying, flatironing, and trimming for only $54!!

She also just conditioned washed my hair upon request!!

Found a stylist that does Dominican blowouts.

    Gabrielle's Salon & Day Spa
    9012 Research Blvd, Suite C7
    Austin, Texas 78758

    Gabrielle's - Salon & Day Spa

Cut, color with steam, blowout was $125. Love the cut and she did a great job with the blow out, my first in probably 7 or 8 years. She'll cut natural hair straightened, or curly (dry). I had my hair cut when straightened, and it looks great when curly too because she compensated nicely for my multi-texture ( I range from 3c to 4b, but mostly 4a).
