I am new here!

Hi! I am new here. I am in my early 50's and have 3a/3b hair (at least I think I do). Most of my life I have hated my curly hair and done everything I could to straighten it. The last time I wore it natural was probably 15 years ago. In the last week, I have gone natural twice--and I actually liked it and went out in public. My hair has gone through alot and has suffered some damage from all of the intense blow drying and use of flat iron. I have learned alot from the last few days on this site and the jessicurl site. I actually learned the right way to use a diffuser--OMG. I can't believe I went all these years and didn't really know how to deal with my hair. I want to go natural more and more--it is a process for me. I have to say I have been very confused reading these chat boards. I have no idea what all the abbreviations mean and I don't know anything about the "cones"???? I know one of the cones must be silicone--what are the others and why are they bad for me??? Is there a place on here that will explain the abbreviations and about what is good and bad for my hair?
Anyway, I look forward to learning more and going natural more and more.

Thanks!
3a (I think) New to going curly after almost 20 years of straight hair. Not curly every day yet--but most days.

Trying EVERYTHING right now. Not yet sure what my hair loves or hates.

Gave up flat iron on or around 10/1/08!

    Welcome Necie!

I fought my curls my whole life. For those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s, it was all about hair being long, straight and parted in the middle! It took turning 50 for me to admit that I had VERY curly hair. Once I let go of "wanting" straight hair I was able to embrace my beautiful, curly hair!

Here is a good link to get started with. Good luck and read, read, read!

Thanks so much for replying! Yes, I was a teenager in the 70's. Straight parted in the middle hair was the style--I did not fit in. Now that I am 50+, I don't need to fit in--I just need to be me.
