dipping my toe in the water (a rambly story of curly hair)

I'm Adrienne. I live north of San Francisco. I had waves as a baby, stick straight hair at around 7 and then it started waving up again.

Then puberty hit. And I learned all about lye. And got burned. So I tried to rock the jewfro through the '80s. Jennifer Beals was my friend, I thought, but my hair got long and wide. "a-frame" was a term that made me shiver.

In the '90s I mostly braided it or wore a pony tail. I started blowing it dry. I dyed streaks in it - bright red, blue, etc. Then I started getting colored extensions.

In the Aughts I discovered that my hair was thinner than it used to be. And what a flat iron was. I started getting layered cuts, but still got extensions. My hair blew kinda-straight easily, but the flat iron - she was the Mistress of our house.

And all this time I understood that my hair didn't like to be washed. Maaaybe twice a week, but less if I could. And I hated every product I picked up. None of them seemed to work. Gel, mousse ... always so drying! I would rather have the frizz.

So I blew and ironed and I loved the smooth Egyptian bangs-a-la-Cleopatra look.

But recently I realized that *product* has changed. There is so much more out there for curly hair than there used to be. And sites like this. Which I visited in 2000, but just wasn't ready for.

It's overwhelming, honestly. There is too much to take in. But I'm here. And my extensions are coming out next month. They don't curl nearly as much as my hair does - I think they pull it down.

I look at my hair and it doesn't *curl*. It squiggles. And I think 'maybe, if I stop doing all of this, it will remember how to actually go in circles'

I don't even *know* what type it is, because it squiggles. I look at a hair and each curve of the S has about three or four true hard-bend-type kinks in it, sending the curve off its path. I'm guessing it will be 3b but we'll see.

So here I sit. It will be an interesting experiment to be sure. I'll start with things I can get at the drugstore and go from there. CG is an easy appeal to me, as someone who never washed her hair.

Hi. More of an introduction than expected perhaps but there it is. Sorry, it's early and quiet here and I am rambling.

This will be a great adventure.

Current experiment is Co-Wash and Condition: V05 kiwi lime clarifying conditioner
Then KBB super silky, KCCC, then L'Oreal Melting Gel with a bit of GF Super Stiff mixed in.
Pre-toweling, post-toweling, pre-plop and post-plop. The jury is not out on the plopping thing. I think my hair is too fine.
