Tea for Hair?

What can tea do for your hair? I have different types of tea in my cabinet and I was wondering if I can use it in my hair somehow. Are their any recipes?

Tea can add copper highlights to your hair. I use Lipton's Orange Pekoe (or something like that) because it's cheap.

Make a strong infusion, aroung 20 tea bags for a liter of boiling water. Let stir overnight. Then you can rinse your hair 15 times with it. After, i take 1 cup of the tea and mix with some conditioner and other thick ingredient like honey or AVG. Apply in your hair and let for 1 hour. Rinse and repeat every week. After a month, you should see the difference!

Here is a summery of herbal tea you can use :
[FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][SIZE=-1][FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][SIZE=-1]-Black tea to darken hair and/or add some copper highlights (depends of your natural hair color)

-Chamomille to bring out highlight (especially for blondes)

    -Sage to darken hair

-Not herbal tea but same process : half beet juice and half carrot juice (bring out the red).

-Never use coffee because it smell really bad in hair and smell for days!

Enjoy and experiment with other tea ;)

i have forest fruit tea: hibiscus, elderberry, apple , corints, rosehip shells, black currant..i plan to rinse my hair with it to add a bit of color, i'm after the black currant color (purpley!) especially :D..but it has some artificial flavoring in it, would it still be ok to use on my hair?thankyou!!:D

and o yeah!i have thin black hair..this could be important:)

I don't think that the artificial flavor will damage your hair... it think it could perfume them! :D

I tried with Lipton blueberry tea. It darken a little bit and my hair smelled for 3 days :P

The key here is to make something really strong and to rinse 15 to 20 times with it. I put one big bowl in the kitchen sink and I rinse my hair. Then I switch the bowls and do it again. My hair is shoulder length and brown, so black tea gives me copper highlights.

I will try to find pictures but these days I'm using henna.... but since this thread is active, I want to use tea again! ;)

Does anyone know what benefit (except color) we could have using tea?

Chamomile is noted not just for color/highlights, but for wonderful conditioning properties. I always use it in my henna mixes, and I think it makes a difference...I've read that all tea gives dry hair a natural shine when used as a final rinse...not sure about anything else, though...

I looooove chamomile tea rinses and also use it in my cassia! It does seem to help and bring out highlights as well.

so here's what i did with the tea...i made a strong mixture like lyzz suggested, but only really big mug of tea..i mixed some with honey and my conditioner and let it sit while i shampooed my scalp and conditioned my hair, rinsed then poured the concoction over my hair..i did this with my head upside down, and then i rinsed with the rest of the tea..rinsed again and again, recycling the mixture, i don;t know if it reached 15 tyms, i kinda doubt it:D..then i put a plastic cap on then continued to shower..after a few mins, i took the cap off and rinsed with cool water...scrunched in some gel and let it dry..the results!curlier hair!! (i gues from the honey) AND there was already a tinge of red in my hair from the tea..im gonna do this again next week, maybe modify it a bit to add moisture coz my hair is still frizzy...i recommend you try it, it is so much fun!!:happy6:

I just did a tea rinse, my first for months! Now I'm waiting for my hair to dry.

Btw I did a tea and lavender mist. Now every time I wash my hair I will spray some before applying gel. I'm curious to see if the highlights will be more noticeable. Because of the tea, I added drops of grape seed oil to prevent bacteria.

I love it!! I don't know if it's the tea rinse and/or the spray but my hair feels so soft and shiny!! After I made the tea rinse, I took about 1 cup of it and mixed it with lavender and rosemary EO, a little bit of honey and a tiny tiny bit of glycerin. The weather here is much more dry than in the summertime so I don't want to mess with glycerin . And I added a few drops of grape seed oil.

I use it after my leave-in conditioner. I flip over my head, spray a lot, scrunch. Then I put AVG and that's it!

aaah!im anxious to find essential oils for my very own spray!right now i'm using a teeny bit of honey and a wee bit of condish with water as my spray..i only mix up a little, just for the day, i have a tiny spray bottle and that'll be enough for the whole day..i can't tell much how its working though coz the weather here is crazy, one minute its sunny and hot, the next its raining hard!..but my tea rinses are doing great things for my hair, and i should also give some credit for the honey..im slowly figuring out my routine,i just gotta kip myself from touching my hair too much!hihi!

For the EO, you can use lavender because it's good for every type of hair and skin. I also choose rosemary because it's supposed to help relieving itches and stimulate hair growth. But hey, this mix smells good too!

As for the changes, I don't know! I think it will be more noticeable in the sun. I only used it for 3 days now, and I remember when I was doing tea rinse, it took at least 3-4 weeks to see a difference!

all this tea-talk intrigues me, but I WOULD be careful with this... there's been a lot of mentions about bacteria growing in homemade concoctions, mostly because the containers aren't being properly sterilized. But IME, tea grows bacteria like no one's business, in as little as a couple of hours, if left unrefridgerated. So it might be a good idea to make ABSOLUTELY sure that your bottles are properly cleaned, and then keep the mist in the fridge until you want to use it. Probably wouldn't last more than a week or two, either, before it starts to go a little bad.

Thanx Mims for the info. I actually use only glass or aluminium bottles. I wash them with hot water, then with isopropylic alcohol and do a final rinse with sterile water. I make about 1 cup, but since I'm spraying a lot in my hair, it's enough for a week. I don't store it in my fridge nor in my bathroom. All my products stay away from the warmth and humidity.

I also did a mistake in the post. I said I put grapeseed oil the prevent bacteria growth and I meant grapefruit seed extract (GSE). It's a natural antibacterial. My own experience is that when I make cream (water-oil emulsion) stored in plastic bottles without GSE, it spoils in a few days. The same recipe put in glass bottle (wash and sterilise as I mentionned before) with the GSE lasts for 2 months (not in fridge, not in bathroom). So I applied this reasoning for the tea mist.

As for the results now... it's working! It's been 3-4 days now and in the light of my bathroom, my hair are more brown-copper than before! I'm thrilled to experiment with different king of tea/herbal tea. I would like to have purple-red highlights. Any idea?

It works pretty well!! Only 2-3 drops is enough, so one bottle is last a year and more. I use it a lot, even in my mix with conditioner, just to be sure ;).

I bet that keeping it away from the bathroom helps a lot too!

In the bus, going back from school, I thought about this post and got an idea! I wonder, I have new empty mascara tubes. I would like to try some sage infusion for my lashes, to darken the end a little bit. I would try on my eyebrows, but they are black.

In one on my naturals recipes book, there's one similar to this, but it's mix with jojoba oil. I just cannot support oil near my eyes so I will try without it. So it will be just sage infusion and GSE.

    I bought mine here www.aroma-zone.com

There's english and french, but the french part is complete with a lot more product than the english section. You have to go to the french part to buy the GSE (extrait de pépin de pamplemousse).

I don't know if you can buy it at the drugstore, never checked!
