Oh no, Mr. Arrojo!

Okay, I was watching What Not To Wear the other night and they were making over a girl with curly hair. As always, Nick said he was going to cut her hair really short, but then he said he was going to 'tame the beast' and straighten it. How dare you!!! I would attack him with his flat iron if he came near me with it. I watched a few more episodes, and noticed if the girl has curly hair, he either cuts it REALLY short (like his) or straightens it. If the girl has straight hair, he just cuts it really short. I've never seen him let a curly girl keep her hair long if she didn't want hair like his. I don't think he knows what to do with curly hair. His is always filled up with gel, and he always chops everyone else's off. That makes me mad. Does anyone else agree, or am I just ranting for the heck of it??

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I think most people on that show are so style-challenged, and they have that 'I don't want to look made up - I don't want this to be too difficult to maintain' attitude, that he give them a cut that's easier to work with.

I have definitely seen him let some girls keep their curls, and even bring out curls in those who didn't know they had them.

And when they do the catwalk reveal w/ Clinton and Stacy, they always do the hair a few different ways to show the versatility.

Most makeover shows straighten the hair, and I think it's just because they're trying to go for that shocking reveal.

I am not a fan of him. He always chops hair way too short. He also claims he will NEVER straighten a curly girls hair, yet I have seen him do it time and time again.

He LOADS on the silicones too.

I've seen him leave curly girls long. He gave one 3B/3C a BSL trim. And he always, always left curly girls' hair curly in the older seasons - I was so disappointed when, multiple episodes in a row, he busted out the flat iron in the new one! And I cannot believe he said "tame the beast". That is so against his former message. A lot of us on here liked him because he embraced everyone's curl, or brought it out if they didn't know it was there. Change bad, Nick! Noooo!
    OMG, LOOK!!

It drives me crazy that he tends to get scissor happy and cuts most people's hair short. He seems to take great pleasure in it. I have rarely seen him leave curls alone to do their own thing. He's always got that damn flat iron ready to go. It also appears that he gives many of the women the same basic hairstyle...straight bob, side bangs. Not too much creativity. I'm not impressed with him at all.
    I LOVE my curls...finally! :toothy4:

He used to do some some nice cuts on curly hair in past seasons but lately he seems to straighten everybodys hair. I would think that when a woman bursts into tears when looking at her new do and says : "it doesnt even look like me", it should tell you something!

I think he's awful. "Give us a hug." He obviously hates long hair and gives almost everyone the same soccer mom bob. He always uses that frightful razor.

Curly girls get short haircuts and wind up looking like Q-tips or poodles, unless he flat irons their hair to "tame the beast" (ugh!) and gives them the soccer mom bob too. And what's with all the silicone serum?

I bet Stacy and Carmindy don't go anywhere near him. He'd never let them keep their long hair.

Haha, I totally agree with that 'soccer mom' hairstyle. You guys are right. Short, straight bob or short, curly bob. Is it a bob if it's curly? What is it called....? Ok sorry. Anyways, I think he's going for that whole amazing transformation thing as well, because if he kept it the same, or nearly the same, the makeover wouldn't mean much either. Huh. Maybe he should 'tame the beast' on his own head.

Funny. I had the same reaction when I saw it this weekend. He took a strawberry blond curly and straightened her. Once she got home, all the after shots, her hair looked like straw, was mega frizzy, and BIG. What a mess he made of her hair.

This is a little bit off subject, but I am not impressed with how he styles his own curls. I think they look stringy and sometimes even greasy. Maybe he doesn't have a good understanding of curls, his or anyone else's.

ITA There was a time when I would have LOVED for him to do my hair, but now, not so much. He used to be so great with curls, as he should be given his own hair, but on the latest episode not only did he straighten the woman's hair, I believe I saw him use a razor to cut her hair. Then when she got home to Florida, her hair looked like crap due to the humidity. Don't know why he's on this straightening kick.

I think the most interesting part of all is the fact that HE'S A CURLY HIMSELF!!!

    arrojo.jpg

Honestly, I really like his hair curly...it looked like he really knew how to take care of it...very soft and shiny! So I don't understand why he would straighten and destroy someone else's curly hair. Especially those who say they want something easy to maintain. Wouldn't it be easier to work with what they have??

Now that's odd, as I feel just the opposite (see my post above). I don't watch every episode and I know he changes his style a lot, but when I've seen him wear it curly I haven't liked it most of the time.

I have to agree. I love the show. Nick sometimes gets it right. But he does a great job with curly hair and usually keeps them curly. Not all the time. But most of the time.

I saw a repeat of the show with Addie Broyles. She made it known that she wanted to keep her curls. I think he did a pretty good job shaping up her curls. There was a Curl Highlights written about her here on nc.com. It's interesting to read her point of view of the Arrojo styling experience.

I am most definitely NOT a fan! Yes, he really does not like long hair & more often than not he gives a woman w/long beautiful curls some short high maintenance bob.

But what really got me was when he said not to be afraid of chopping off all the hair b/c "hair is an accessory." Excuse me Mr. Arrojo, but it might be an accessory to you & your stylists, it might be an accessory to the runway models who visit the city during Fashion Week, it might be an accessory to the Real Housewives of Manhattan who can afford to change their style like they change their panties, but to average girls like us hair is a defining characteristic and don't you dare think otherwise!!!!!!! :boxing:

He's known in the industry as a razoring expert so, hence all the razoring. At the hair shows for the last couple of years, he has more and more done the big chops with "sleek" styles - a total disappointment. I don't even bother to sign up for his classes anymore.

I like his makeovers for the most part. I did see one this year with the curly that he straightened and when she went home it looked frizzy. I did not like that makeover. Just remember how long it takes to get your curly hair in the right condition, he only had a day to do the makeover, so it would not give him enough time to get the curls in top shape. I agree the products are a bit heavy with cones. I believe doing makeovers can be difficult, because you have to do something that makes a drastic change in minimal time and do it in a way that shows well on TV that viewers will watch. I like his hair shorter, not long. I don't think he is a bad person, just a celebrity and trying to play the part.

I liked him a lot in the first few years. I've seen some great curly cuts from him, and he does understand curly hair - when he chooses too.

The last year or two though, it just seems as if he gives most women the same chin length bob, and he all about the short hair no matter what. I hope he gets out of that phase. He seemed to do more client centered cuts before, and now they seem to be Arrojo centered cuts.

To add to my thread, I watched an episode last night where the girl had loose shoulder-length curls that were just a little bit frizzy and with some product they would be amazing, but she said "I'm tired of the drab curls and frizz." He gave her the only other option that he knows, yes folks, the chin-length bob.:disgust:
