but seemingly overnight my hair and scalp did it again. They don't like CV bars anymore!!!! I had been itching occasionally (usually the first sign) but I ignored it, and for the last few days my hair has been oily and yucky!!! But that doesn't mean they won't in the future and I can use them on my body.

This can be so frustrating. It seems like anytime I find what I think may be a hg for my hair AND scalp they go crazy and say NOPE!!!!! The only thing that worked for a longer period of time was CWC with Back to basics Pomegranate shampoo/condish mostly, so that's what I'm going back to. Except right now I'm using Tigi's moisture maniac. As long as it's cone free I think CWC will work. I have Whole Food's 365 Fragrance free condish still so it's going to be my first C to keep from being overloaded with fragrance to keep the itch down. So far so good; sometimes I itch right out of the shower, or even in the shower when I'm finishing up! I'm going to pick up some B2B today too.

I may decide to do an every other day thing, with CWC one day and CV bars the next. Or CV bars on my off days. Something like that. We'll see how my hair does after the first few days of this.
sigh......

Oh, man (((hugs)))...so sorry you're having a problem again. Maybe the rotation of products will work. I wonder what causes the itching and oilys to happen? I sure hope you do find an HG in the near future...keep us posted :)

My heart goes out to you. I know how much you loved them. Any idea what ingredient--is it all of them?? I could never figure it out with the products I was allergic to.

Hey, I'm so sorry to hear about this. This sounds really frustrating. Do you have any idea the culprit? I think rotating and possibly doing a process of elimination will help sort things out.

Good luck to you and I hope your scalp calms down soon. Please keep us posted. :)

Oh I am so sorry! :sad8: Your success with CV bars probably drove many people to give them a shot. I never would have tried the Chocolate Almond without you!

So I also think the idea of rotating is a great one. If you can maybe try to co-wash with just water or aloe vera juice or something to calm your scalp down and then introduce something super gentle?

Are there any ingredients in common to all of the bars you use? Or, is the main ingredient in the bars what needs to be rotated? Coconut milk soap one day and shea another day??

I hope you can figure it out. I am so sorry....how frustrating.

Oh, no-my fellow 2. Weird that your scalp freaked out today. Mine did too. I wonder if it is the change of season?

Have you ever been allergy tested?

Anyway, you could try Curly Girl Fla's dairy whips! :evil1:

Tigi stuff was the absolute worse thing I ever used for my allergies!! I got a rash all over my body, my scalp was super itchy and my hair fell out!!

I have been using a different product every day and that seems to be working well for the allergies. Maybe you can still use the bars but not every day??

    Allergies are so annoying!!

Thanks CGF...I have some theories....I have very oily skin and I think the Sulfates dries out what should be my oily hair too. I think rotating between the bars and cone free shampoo/condish may help and be a good solution. :D

eta I also think that I just can't use AOHR or their other condishes more than once a week. I think I'll save them for dt's instead.

I don't think it's any one ingredient; I was careful when I bought them to get ones without ingredients that bother me. I THINK my hard water is causing build up on my scalp from them and THAT's causing the itch. I don't think it's a true allergy. But as for my oilies, which was what REALLY bugged me most, that can be taken care of by rotating with cone free poos every few days. Thanks for the sympathy.....I'm actually feeling better today and starting to put together a plan of action.

LOL thanks Pigreyhound....I'm not giving up yet on my chocolate almond soap!!!!!

I HAD some AVjuice, but it's bad now due to loss of power for a day or so. But AVjuice isn't good on my scalp and it doesn't like just water either. I'm going to coat my scalp with shea and then do CWC with the bars and my unscented condish later on and see how that works. I don't think it's ingredient issues this time though. I may just need to get a replacement filter for our hard water.

    Thanks again!

Hi Feralcurls....thanks....I actually am a stylist and I know of a lot of people who have issues with Tigi. I've used my MM twice and am just now having some issues with it so I think if I rotate I'll be ok. And yep, the bars will DEFINATELY still be in there. Sorry you have allergies too.....I'm so wierd with the number of things that bother me....

    Thanks everyone.....

I don't think this is a true allergy issue, unless something in the AO condishes don't like my scalp on a daily basis, since before now I've just used it once in awhile but recently have used it daily. Come to think of it, that really may be it. I'll have to check ingredients again.

Here's what I think my issues are THIS time.

    1. My filter on my showerhead is needing replacement, even though it hasn't been 6 months. My hair and scalp are acting like they did the last time I used bars when I HATED them.

    2. Because of my hard water, the soaps are building up on my scalp and causing itching. But hey....at least I'm not flaking, right?

    3. My hair is really oily like my skin is, but because I've used sulfates for so long my hair and scalp were dried out and now since I'm using the non-stripping bars my hair is oily like it should be. I think though, that the AO condishes are contributing to the oilies too.

    So here's my plan.

    1. Get a new filter, chick! In the meantime I'll pick up some distilled water to use. Oh, but I'll be gone the next two days and I'm pretty sure they have soft water there so I'll get a good idea if that's part of the issue.

    2. Stop using AO condishes daily and save them for DT's only. And I just bought two brand new bottles of AOHR from that bogo offer online too, and I wasn't even out....so I guess I'll either have to swap some or I'll just have enough for a year!

    3. Start doing CWC with the bars. I have my WF 365 FF condish that I can use for this purpose; it's cheap too. I'll save more expensive condishes for the last condish. When I CWC with poo I'll dilute it with water.

    4. Rotate....I'll start with a non coney poo twice a week and go from there. Bars the other days. I'm going to go to my local beauty supply today and pick up some noncone condishes that I know my hair and scalp can handle. I just kept my AO condishes onhand and need some others since those are obviously too heavy and oily for daily use.

    5. On days I use the bars I'll have to be sure to vinegar rinse. I'm planning on VERY DILUTED vinegar though. 1:10 at least.

    6. Until I see how my hair handles the bars I'm going to be sure to use a condish that my hair likes and keep it off my scalp.

I'm DETERMINED to make this work. I've had so much experience in figuring out what causes my itching I'm fairly certain it will. In any case, I feel better since posting to you guys and now that I've formulated a plan. So thank you again!!!!! :icescream::blob7::blob7::blob7::blob7::blob7::blob7::blob7::icescream:

OK, so here's what I did today.

CWC with 365 FF condish and CV Cafe moreno. Actually, that should be CWCWC. The first CW was the 365 FF and CM bar. The second was 365 FF and Chocolate/almond. Light vinegar rinse, 1:10 dilution, and Giovanni Root 66 condish (for oily, fine hair, volumizing) left in a few mins. No products. Wet it felt a bit waxy, dry though it's fine.

I think I panicked though, the other day; I was at work Wednesday and finally gave in and had a trim and a few layers put in the front where it was still one length. I told the gal that I had nothing in it and she said "why does it feel waxy?" She said it didn't feel BAD, just producty. I think I just flipped out.

I still can't decide if I want to do every other day with coneless poo/condish and then the other days bars, or more bars than poos, or what. I guess I'll decide tomorrow what I'll do.

I don't know if this will help, but I had a few thoughts:

I find myself taking longer showers with all my experimentation (I guess I need to be more environmentally responsible and turn the water off when I am not using it, but I get cold) so the shower filter may not last six months.

I was wondering if a non-sulfate poo would be enough to wash out soap buildup. Last night I dug out my sample of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Gentle-Lather-Shampoo-p-363.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-gentle-lather-shampoo]JC Gentle Lather Shampoo[/buylink] and washed with that (I didn't put conditioner in to protect my ends figuring it would wash out residue on my hair), then washed one time with the CV Honey Beer soap, did a weak ACV rinse (about 1:10), rinsed with water, conditioned with AOHR, rinsed with water then used what was left of the ACV rinse, then rinsed again. I am not sure my hair likes AOHR and it did feel gunky after I put it in, but felt fabulous after the ACV rinse. I think it removed the heaviness. Would a little ACV after AOHR enable you to use it up? Unless of course it is the AOHR that is bothering you....Anyway, food for thought.

Hi AJane....I've never done the ACV AFTER my conditioner....I've always done it before and left it in with my condish on top. That's a thought though. The AOHR didn't cause any itching. It's what caused the oilies though, so that may help.

Once my hair dried yesterday it felt pretty darn good. My ends were a little dry though and my scalp a little itchy (and I'm flaking a little bit too but not badly) so I used some camellia oil and applied it to my scalp and then the ends....OMG My hair felt so soft!!!! This is my new fave oil. I may like it better than Shea butter even, since it's very light. :toothy7:

I'm going to try the bars today with the AOHR and ACV afterwards. If that helps then I'll use the bars mostly and then just poo as needed. At least that way I won't flake and itch. Oh, and I'm planning on trying some KBB too, so if I can add that to my arsenal I'll have a good all natural alternative.

That's too bad. :sad8: I still really like chocolate almond, but can't use it too frequently either. My hair started to get frizzy, so I think the cv bars are too stripping to use every week (atleast for dry hair). Think it would be best as a clarifier to remove build-up.
