I'm mostly a 3b-c, with a bit of everything else thrown in.
I'm 17 years old.
SL when dry.
I'm kind of CG (occasional sulphate)
Wash: Miss Jessie's Creme de la Curl Cleansing Creme, Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner, Occasional LowPoo grabbed from a drugstore or Biotera Moisturizing Shampoo (for BAD buildup)
Condition: Kenra, AOHR, Queen Helene's Cholesterol, Biolage Conditioning Balm, Generic KPak
ALWAYS Biotera Styling Gel
Haven't found a leave-in I like yet

Black currant seed oil, flax seed oil and evening primrose oil are all helpful in combating the dry hair (and skin) that are so problematic for hypothyroid patients.
Of course, check w/your own health care provider before taking anything...(if they are open to such things of course). This is not medical advice, and I'm not a medical practitioner. (Friendly disclaimer...lol).
best,
blyss
Hope that helps someone!

I'm wondering is this age/hormone related? I also notice that I have more hair loss before my menstrual cycle, is this happening to anyone else?
I have a hard time growing my hair too, it grows very slowly.

My hair has become finer (whether due to the thyroid, or the changes in the hairshaft as I became a wavy/curly- chicken or egg, I guess). My hair had always been thick, in terms of the amount of hairs on my head, but I really noticed a lot of loss as my thyroid began to fail.
I've spoken about hair loss w/StruttsWife about hair loss a few weeks ago, and thought I was in the clear if the count was to be >100 (I'd always heard that about 100 strands lost per day was "normal"). She told me that there's some discussion in the industry lately about this, and that some pros feel that the more accurate normal amount would be closer to 30- 40 strands lost per day. Yikes!
If she sees this thread, maybe she will comment (she's so knowledgeable about everything hair). I'm pretty sure she mentioned that coconut oil and/or coconut milk (massaged into the scalp) are thought to help some with excess loss.
I didn't ask her specifically if it could still help, even with a thyroid dx, but she did know I have one. Since going CG and massaging coconut oil into my scalp, the amount of hairs I lose when I'm detangling in the shower have decreased by about HALF (!).
It would seem that even regular old (dry) scalp massages could help with growth/to minimize loss due to the resulting increase in bloodflow following a massage. Also, coconut oil, if your hair can tolerate it past the roots, definitely wouldn't hurt, in terms of dryness.
I've had an issue that probably many hypothyroid peeps have- the outer portion of my eyebrow got very scrawny, and I had to use brow pencil and whatnot. A few days after I began using coconut oil on my scalp, I started applying it over the sparse area of the eyebrow. It does seem that my eyebrows are beginning to end at a more appropriate place, which thrills me.
I definitely can't offer any scientific proof that these things are contributable to coconut oil, but I'll keep it up- just in case. It can't hurt.
