Anyone have a gym membership?

tikigodstikigods Posts: 165Registered Users
I'm looking for a few people who have gym memberships that would want to journal their workouts with me. I've been big into fitness the past two and a half years so I would love to share ideas, programs, and recipes/eating ideas with people.

Feel free to PM if needed.

I'd be willing to. I also am big on working out and have been for the past 3 years or so. I think it would help keep me accountable and honest about how much I'm doing. I belong to the Y and I love it! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Excellent. I just walked in the door from the gym. I did a ton of cardio tonight. I think it would be a good idea to keep a little journaling group to monitor workouts, eating, and just support one another. It might be a good little motivational tool.

I'm doing my stuff from home with free weights. Balancing between boot camp type workouts (cardio mixed with weight training & straight weights.

For my weight training, I really like the pyramid system where you do more reps of the lightest weight, moderate reps of a moderate weight and a few reps of the lightest weight, and then go back down the pyramid.

For core training I do plank and plank dips for the obliques.

Eating - trying to do more protien and modified lower fat. I notice that if I do low fat I get really cranky and angry.

Recipe o' the day: mock creamed spinach
steam spinach with chicken stock, red pepper flakes and fresh garlic. Add a bit of low fat cream cheese. season with fresh herbs, freshly grated nutmeg, salt/pepper to taste.

Chocolate fix: I suck on a chocoate instead of chewing it. Lasts much longer - especially if it has caramel in it.

Today's exercise: 45 min boot camp.

For my core weight training I"m like you Webbie I do the pyramid system. 12 rps lowest weight, then add ten lbs or so 10 reps, add ten 8 reps, add ten 6 rps then 12 at my original then another 12 same muscle group different machine. For example if I'm using a chest press for my final 12 I'll use two free weights and press them from my back. Make sense?

25 minutes eliptical, 5 minute cool down
10 minute run on the tread
20 minutes back on eliptical no cool down.

Dinner tonight I had Subway, 12 inch Turkey, no cheese no condiment. For a snack I'm doing salsa and organic black bean flavored Guiltless Gourmet tortillas.

I'm hitting the gym tomorrow at 4:30am, I'm trying to get into my cardio routine but work is going to kill me this week so mornings will have to be it.

I hate cardio, but if it's mixed in with weights or kickboxing moves it's tolerable.

One one of the videos, we do something called terminators:

    stand sraight
    hands to hips
    hands to floor
    jump to plank position
scissor legs 3 times like you are trying to climb a mountain
    jump to plank position
jump feet forward to meet hands
jump straight up in the air

repeat very quickly. each move should take 1 to 2 seconds.

i also replaced my chair at work with a fitness ball. It forces me to keep proper posture and abs in.

dinner: 2 panko crusted tilapia with mock creamed spiinach smushed between the two filets - like a sandwich. Large glass of red wine (my weakness)

Oh man you eat like a queen. Your routine sounds like yoga? Do you do yoga at all? I'm interested in learning.

I did 25 minutes eliptical and 10 minute run this morning. I think my burn was about 500 cal.

Breakfast Cheerios+banana, skim milk, piece of dry wheat toast.

    Yoga tones muscles pretty fast?

45 min upper body pyramid sets.

Yoga tones slowly. Well, I take that back, it depends on what type of yoga and how often you do it. Yoga that is more intense and has lots of strenght movements will most likely tone faster than a restorative slow paced hatha. Both are great for general mental wellness.

breakfast: 2 sips spirutien strawberry (yuck) coffee (no sugar 2 tbs 1/2 and 1/2)
lunch: 3 tuna sushi, 3 salmon sushi Thin slice of cibatta + honey butter
dinner: 2 lemon garlic thyme chicken legs, large glass of red wine, herb roasted cauliflower, pickled beets.

    I just started a membership with bally's.

I also am interested in incorporating yoga into my off gym days at home, that way i'll be doing something every day.

Right now i'm doing cardio on the treadmill for lower body and using the weights for upper body and arms stregnthening and tone. i think yoga will help me with overall strength and muscle tone.

the mock creamed spinach sounds delish (minus chicken stock).

1/9/06 Did 32 minutes on elliptical at the gym @ 6 am before school,
Breakfast=2 whole grain waffles with 3 tablespoons sugar free syrup, 1/2 cup plain nonfat yogurt, 3/4 cup strawberries with cinnamon spinkled on them. 20 oz. water
Lunch=6 inch roasted chicken breast sub from Subway, all the veggies and no cheese, just a little mustard. Bag of fat free potato chips  I don't like doing these but I needed something else to go with it!
Dinner=2 bowls chili with 93% lean ground beef, black and kidney beans, and lots of tomatoes. 1 skinny cow ice cream sandwich (140 cals). Lots of water.
Been trying to add lots more water to my days. I managed 4 1/2 20 oz. bottles yesterday, and 5 today, which is pretty good.
Going to the gym later, will post to say what I did!

    Thanks!
I hit the gym hard today. Did 20 minutes on the elliptical at a higher intensity than usual, then did weights--inner and outer thigh machines, tricep dips, lat pulls, seated rotary chest machine, and a few other machines I don't know the name of  at least 30-40 reps on each. Finished with abs doing crunches, normal and side, with weights, and topped it off with another ten minutes on the treadmill at 5 mph. I feel tired but good!
Have to go out to dinner tonight. Planning on a big salad with grilled chicken or something similar. Overall, a good day!

Yesterday for lunch I had Smart Ones meatloaf and mash potato, dinner 12 inch turkey, lettuce, pickles no cheese or condiment. Snack salsa and black bean low fat tortillas; coconut chocolate chip bar (naughty, slap)

This morning, 25 minutes eliptical, 10 minute walk to catch the news and cool down.

Breakfast bowl of fiber cereal, cup of tea with skim and pinch of honey. Lots of water.

    Vegan?

    Hi Tiki!

Not Vegan, but definitely vegetarian and loving it since childhood!

I am thinking of going on a modified vegan diet though just to try it out, but I can't stop drinking (skim) MILK. I love it, it's like my soda.

ETA: I just finished a little yoga and am n my way to the gym before class - i never eat before working out (burns more calories) but I plan to do 30min cardio on treadmill and then do 20 min of weights and 10 minutes of life-cycle-- and then freshen up before class but I will be taking my oatmeal and half slice of whole wheat toast with  ...

I think for lunch I will be having a nice tofu sandwich (on whole grain wheat) with some applesauce on the side (we have a lounge where we can cook so it's pretty nice and quiet and I don't have to rely on the cafe or fast food).

I'm going to make the final switch from milk to soy pretty soon. My problem with milk are all the anti-biotics and hormones they pump into the cows. I love soy and drink it quite often so it shouldn't be a difficult transition.

Gym today: did 32 minutes on the elliptical at high intensity. A little sore from all the work I did yesterday!
Breakfast: 2 whole grain waffles with 3 tablespoons sugar free syrup, 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt. 20 ounces water.
Lunch: sandwich of 2 slices whole wheat bread (40 cals each) and 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 7 Wheat Thins, 20 grapes, 100 calorie-pack of cookies (fake oreos!) Water.
Planning on fruit as a snack and soup/salad for dinner. Good day!

Wow, you guys are very active!

I would love to take up martial arts, but not sure which. I went to a friend's dojo a few months ago and it was really cool, but too pricey for me.

I know bally's has MA for little kids, but I am going to check to see if they have adult classes for young adults and mature adults.

I am having whole grain WHEAT spaghetti for dinner with mushroom sauce and fat-free brownies (made with apple sauce) for dessert. And lots of water. Even though I love my skim milk, I am trying to drink more water exclusively to hydrate the body better and it also helps the body burn more fat, not to mention what it does for the skin. So, I am going to try to drink water exclusively, except for skim with breakfast and have cranberry juice on weekends with breakfast as it's good for the body as well.

    ake care everyone!

My gym is closed today and tomorrow because they are adding new machinery to the weight room :( so I had to workout at home. Did a Tae-Bo workout, about 45 minutes long. It was good--kinda kicked my butt :D
Breakfast: 1 cup whole grain WW cereal (im not on the program but like the taste and the 100 cals a serving) with 1/3 cup fat-free soymilk, 2 eggs scrambled with basil, oregano, thyme and a shake of red pepper flakes. 20 oz. water
Lunch: 6 inch roasted chicked breast sub from Subway, no cheese/all the veggies/a squirt of mustard. 1 bag Light Lays chips, Diet Coke. Water.
Snack: salad with iceberg lettuce, spinach, red and green pepper, onion, a few green grapes and 1/2 Tablespoon fat free italian dressing. Water.
Dinner: planning on a baked potato with salsa, some baked fish and a few steamed shrimp. Dessert=Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich, these are awesome!
I'm going out of town tomorrow so it will be difficult to not have control over what is presented to me (I'm teaching at a weekend retreat where food is catered). I'm planning on drinking lots of water and keeping portions small. Good luck to everyone!

I love reading what you guys eat. Can you tell I'm such a guy yet? All I eat for dinner is Subway. Its definately not because I can't cook its just I'm too lazy to cook after the gym. Tomorrow is Saturday and I've promised myself I'm laying low for the day so I'm going to have a different menu for tomorrow.

I read somewhere, and I find it holds true, that after strength training, put the protein to your body 45 minutes after you work out. This helps muscles begin their healing process and starts building up the tears from the work out before the lactic acids set in.
