Pilates is focused mostly on your core (stomach mucles.) Really the only way I can describe it is a mix between ballet and yoga........it can be a really intense muscle workout..........no cardio. Pilates it ment to elongate your muscles. I prefer cycling, kickboxing and lifting weights, but that is just me, some people swear by Pilates.

If you buy the DVDs there is 1 DVD that goes through all the movements slowly and she explains how to do it all....then there's the 20 min workout and the accellerated workout, and lemme tell you the accellerated one is tough! u gotta do the 20 min one for a couple months to build strength to do the accellerated one, but the accellerated one moves fast and it's about an hour long and makes u sweat! I felt it the next day...
I'm back to the 20 min one in order to strengthen some more before doing the accellerated one...
All in all I give it a 4 out of 5 (just because it's on DVD and there is no actual instructor to tell u if ur doing something wrong)...

i think pilates is a great compliments to a well rounded program....worse case do some form of cardio and pilates and you'll be better for it....pilates really focuses on your core....many people don't have a clue how weak their core is...
your posture can improve and you can feel more lean and poised if you master pilates....the moves look simple but you can really build good strength if you do them properly
i would advise the pilates for dummies dvd....it's excellent for showing you 18 of the pilates moves, includes instruction on what it works, when to breathe, etc.....it's less than $10 on amazon.com. for cardio have you checked out the biggest loser video...i workout and i broke a sweat doing that video....it's $10 at walmart but read the reviews on amazon.com
hope this helps....
please recycle, it matters...
i change lives...through fitness
i'm more relaxed being natural
