Is anyone else's hair doing this?

Okay, some of the veterans know how my hair looked when I first joined the site. It was overprocessed and limp looking and with time, I've grown a completely different head of hair.

Now that it's healthier, it's much MUCH tighter, but the weird thing is only the front has gotten significantly tighter, and the back is still somewhat loose. It looks like I cut my hair really short in the front because of the shrinkage, and I'm left with a mullet(sorta) when it's wet. It blends in alittle better once dry(although it still looks alittle funky, lol), but I've never had this type of problem before.

I'm thinking of cutting the back alittle shorter so that it blends in better with the shrinkage in the front, although I REALLY don't want to. But it just looks weird. LOL!

And unlike some folks whose hair gets alittle weight and shows length with growth(hangs more), my hair gets shorter looking and has way more shrinkage(I'm close to BSL when stretched).
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

I just reached my one year mark but mine does.. I thought my hair looked very mullet-like when I washed it and I did cut some of the back while wet and later regret because i cut too much while wet... I'm no expert; but based on my mishap :( , i say leave it and stretch the front more when dry...

Mine has! For the front I am so grateful because before it had lost most of its curl. It was just limp frizzy and straightish-but-not-quite-straight. After a while of modified CG I managed to get it into tight waves around the size of a flattened 3c, but I had to use two stylers and a leave in or I just got straight spiky pieces. And even w/this method it was hit and miss.

Now, without stylers, it's mostly 4a and the curl is much springier and it's easier to define, too. The texture is less rough as well.

In the back, I had some 4a, but mostly curls that were bigger than pencils but not quite the size of magic markers. I had ONE lone 3B spirally clump back there. Fast forward 2 years and I have some pencil sized curls, smaller than pencil sized curls and than one magic marker curl has seriously down sized.

All around, my hair is tighter but the coolest thing is all the little penspring sized-4b- coils that have emerged.

My hair has definitely gotten tighter as it grows. I have the same problem you have but BACKWARDS. The back of my hair is tightening up and the front is a bit looser...this hair (gotta love it)

Yes I have the same loose hair in the back and it does look kinda weird like a mullet. I just accept it and will let it all keep growing. If you don't flatiron your hair and leave it straight then I would go ahead and cut it. I like to have it straight at least one week a month so I won't be cutting my hair any time soon. I'll rock the mullet, maybe the mullet will come back in style! LOL :laughing7:

Jeamaria- I have really cool 4a/b coils now too. They're mostly near my ears. The cutest little things, I tell ya. LOL! And with less stylers, I get more definition/tighter coils as well. It's funny, because I remember when the front of my hair wouldn't really curl. They were just waves. Now most of my hair is pretty uniform in the front, so I guess I shouldn't complain TOO much, eh? LOL!

Beaniesmom- THANK YOU! :D I do twists every once in awhile, especially when my hair is in a funk and in need of a break. I have some pics in my Fall album of twists and the twist out from those same twists.

Product-wise, I've been all over the place lately. But I use Trader Joe's Spa Nourish as my rinse, and Cantu Leave in, as my leave in. I JUST started re-using my [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Elucence-Moisture-Balancing-Conditioner-p-39.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=elucence-elucence-moisture-balancing-conditioner]Elucence MBC[/buylink] since it had been awhile, and my hair is thanking me again. It seems much thicker than I remember. I use both of Elucence's shampoos; the clarifier when removing buildup every month or so, and the other shampoo on an as needed basis.

Maria- I do flat-iron my hair. More now than I did in the past(maybe 4-5 times a year, now). And I trim when I decide to flat-iron, since I can see the varying lengths better. I tried cutting curly, and it works okay, but it doesn't look as good because when wet, my hair looks and hangs differently and I end up with my hair looking shorter than I wanted.

I'm due for a trim anyway, since it's been about 3 months. I'll maybe trim a half an inch to an inch in the back and I'll just dust the remaining sections.

Oh yeah, and the back sections officially hit the top of my bra-strap. I just tried it. LOL!

I remember your old photos and all I can say is wow. Your hair looks truly unique and naturally shiny. My opinion would be for you not to cut it bcs it appears to have a nice shape.

    Thanks ladies! :D

The shape looks NOTHING like in those pics now. Hahahaha......If it did, I wouldn't even consider messing with it. ;) It's growing like a weed. I didn't even know it touched my bra strp until a few hours ago. Can't imagine what it would look like straightened.

Maybe I'll just add alittle gel to the mix to weigh the curls down in the front a wee bit more. I don't use gels much anymore because it makes my hair take even longer to dry(it already takes about 6 hours w/just a leave in, if not more). But then, I don't wanna experiment too much tomorrow since I have a date. :D Last thing I need it to start playing chemist with product combos only to look a hot-mess tomorrow night. LMAO!
