He suggested that I get a weave!!!!

aunatural1aunatural1 Posts: 156Registered Users
Ok, so I took my twists down lastnight to rock a twist-out for work.. didn't turn out so hot.. so I ended up throwing a headband on!

I admit that my hair still looked alittle wild (it was a flopped back fro)... but I got pissed when my (blk) superintendant suggested that I get a weave, so that my hair was more in place.. I WEAR A PHUCKIN BUN EVERYDAY.... I told him that I'm not getting a damn weave, and that my hair IS in place every other day! He said that when you have as much hair as I do, it would be best to get a weave so I didnt have to deal with it! :angry7: GEE, thanks for telling me how hard dealing with MY hair can be, u bald schmuck!!

What made matters worse.. is the fact that he mentions this in front of our closet racist! You know the guy... "My best friend is blk.." But in his case, "My moms best friend is blk, and she would kill me if I made a neg. comment about them.. and I grew up with her son!!"

Anyway. I joked that both of them rather I had a relaxer, so I looked more like them... As I pointed to the white guy! [laughs] He just said I'm light skinned, but not light enough to pass... :laughing7:... :angry7: I'll pass on that..

LOL at the bolded! And you know something would be wrong if you started taking hair advice from someone who has none of their own (unless it was along the lines of "Don't do what I did?").

Oh he has some f-n nerve. I would have told him since he wanted me to get a weave so badly, how about he pay for it, and pay for me to get it kept up every other week or so for as long as I keep it in. People always have something to say about how you should be doing something, but never want to front the money to do so. Like you actually solicited his advice, anyway. LOL!

That would have shut his ignorant a-s up. Stupid people....I swear.

Your story almost reminds me of that one episode of Living Single, when Kyle's black boss told him he should cut his hair if he wanted to get the promotion, you know, thinking that would help him, but inevitably the other bosses didn't really care about his hair...

I'm sure he THOUGHT he was helping you, maybe he's never met black women that actually LIKE their hair in its natural texture. I mean, to be honest besides myself and CNikki, I don't know anyone that actually tries to work with their natural texture, and hell, I JUST stopped pressing my hair a few weeks ago! Eveybody else I know is down with that chemical fire cream ... oops, I guess I been on NP too long:laughing7:

Dont even sweat that dude, and keep it moving. Sometimes it's best to leave the ignorant ones alone for a while:wink:

There are alot of ppl here that compliment my hair! One blk guy even told me he wished his wife would do the same for herself and their daughter (no flirty type stuff)... So their young daughter (6) would have that "Black is beautiful" attitude!

Anywho... we say just about anything in this office, so I just took it with a grain of salt, and ignored him. I was just annoyed that he said it infront of the white guy.. when he was one of the main ppl who complimented my hair when I was new! :sad8: Alot of white people already think we cant grow long hair, and wear weaves, why would u feed that?

Start documenting what's happening to you. Type it up and keep it at home (not at work) -- dates, exact situations, anyone who was present at the time these comments were made. You never know... you might need to present it one day. If he said things like this to you, what are the chances he said it to someone else (pretty high, I would guess)?

Chin up, buttercup! You're hair is gorgeous.

    I agree.

Shones is right too. I would start documenting because had he been white he would've been fired.
