What Made Springcurl Sick?

SpringcurlSpringcurl Registered Users Posts: 8,002
So, yeah, I'm definitely sick. I spent much of yesterday evening throwing up and-- you know, the other thing. I even threw up Pepto-Bismol.

So there's a couple of schools of thought going around my household. Here are the choices:

1. I went to the gym Tuesday night and when I woke up Wednesday I was exhausted but not sick-- it was the same on Thursday.

2. Thursday for lunch I had a Healthy Choice frozen macaroni and cheese. Several hours after that I had the nausea, vomiting &c.

I think it's the Healthy Choice. My sister thinks I actually picked up something at the gym-- which she says are breeding grounds for all kinds of bacteria and viruses.

What's your opinion?

It's the healthy choice. You can so get food poisoning from frozen foods.

I'm voting for the gym. I have had more colds since I joined. My boyfriend says he is always careful never to touch his face while he's there. It's a hard habit to break, but I'm trying to do the same.

Thats it. I got sick as a dog about two years ago and I couldn't figure out why. It was the gym, and I'm soooo serious.

It sounds like food poisoning. My vote is for healthy choice.

I'd say the Healthy Choice as well because it involves vomit and just hours afterwards it seems most logical.

Every time I join a gym I always get sick after the first few visits as well but I tend to think that is more "cold" related stuff than what you are experiencing.

I didn't vote. Sounds like the same stomach virus we've had around here. If that's what you have....bless you. You will feel awful for a few days.

Make sure you buy a new toothbrush so you don't keep re-infecting yourself like my coworker did!

I chose the gym and here's why. Everytime I've had food poisoning, the sensation is very distinct. It involves rhythmic cramping, like a period, but up higher. As I heal, the rhythm becomes slower and slower and weakens in intensity.

My mom's a nurse and that's how she identifies food poisoning, too, for what that's worth.

Gym. It's "that time of year" to catch stuff... and you just caught stuff. The food was simply a coincidence.

The gym sounds like a possibility, or you could have picked the bug up somewhere else entirely. I'm thinking not the Healthy Choice just because you didn't mention having diarrhea, which I have always gotten with food poisoning.

probably something you picked up from one of the machines at the gym or a door knob. i bet someone there didn't wash their hands well. or at all.

people can get diarrhea from giardia lamblia, and that is in feces, so....it's not impossible.

giardia makes you feel really really sick. lots of nausea and vomiting.

That stomach flu has been EVERYWHERE around here, 4 people on my team have it alone. It's probably that.
I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but I still keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.

Sound like you were coming down with something before the Healthy Choice.

    Feel better soon.

Often people who have stomach flu think it's food poisoning. The symptoms are similar. I've known people to blame something they just ate, although there is an incubation period of hours to days (depending on the type of food poisoning). Yours happened hours later so it could have been the food or flu.

There's a cool article here about what we call 'stomach flu' but it's not for those with weak stomachs! (no pun intended ;) )

Feel better! *Group Hug* HTH :)

You got a virus. My mom had that last week...it has been going around, and its not just for the little kids.

    Gym or germs somewhere else.

I don't know what "several" is for you, but for the most part when I've had food poisoning I've either reacted very quickly, or more like 7 hours later or something. I think it's 6-7 hours later that it's supposed to be?

Curlyarca, resident nurse, care to say if I'm full of garbage or remembering right?

The descriptions others gave fit, too....it's a very distinctive sensation. Very unpleasant, but not ONLY the vomiting/diarrhea.

I'd say a virus. Whenever I've had foodpoisoning I was sick within an hour of eating the bad food. And after I threw up I felt better quickly. Not jump around better, but the nausea disappears, and only weakness stays.

I had food poisoning a couple of times in college, from cafeteria food. (Imagine half of a college dorm all having food poisoning at the same time...not pretty!) The bad food was at dinner and we all had symptoms by morning, not right away. Probably it depends on which bacteria were in the food.

I'm still guessing a stomach virus, though.

    MUCH better, thank you! :D

I guess I got it from the gym, because now my daughter's picked it up.

I had about 24 hours of vomiting and-- the other thing. I'll be starting solid food again today.
