Hey, another Bruin! :D I'm going to be a sophomore next year, too! And I'm not rushing, but I've heard nice things (no hazing, etc.) about our sororities. It doesn't seem like you could go too wrong. Good luck! :)
    OMG, LOOK!!

I have 3 brothers - 1 who just graduated from college, 1 with 1 or 2 years left, and one just starting this fall - and the older 2 were in the same fraternity (the younger brother will probably rush as well to complete the legacy).

Anyway, from their experiences i can give you a general idea of what you might expect. Not long after the beginning of the semester all the greek houses will start throwing events looking for those interested. Check them out and see which ones you like. Get to know the sisters. I know my brothers' fraternity has a week of rush events to find pledges.

I think, I'm not positive, they set up tables in our student lounge to give people info. It might be the same for you.

Well, I hope that helps a bit. I didn't rush any greek houses so this is all secondary information. I can ask for more details when I talk to one of my brothers later :)

don't do it for the sorority name - do it based on which group of girls you like best and reputation.

all the girls are going to be sugar-sweet at rush time because everyone wants a ton of people pledging them, because let's be honest, all national sorority and fraternity numbers are down. they want your money.

which groups treated you the best freshmen year? which girls seemed the best for you to be around? which reputation did you like best?

I rushed a sorority my freshman year, but ultimately thought the system was too artificial and silly and quit. But, I know many others cherished their sorority days.

I think every sorority is different at different universities. Good luck!!

I agree. I didn't go through formal rush. First, I didn't know it was happening, but second, there was way too much pressure. Several of the sororities on my campus only cared about how much money your dad made, what makeup you wore, what brands you wore.
Instead, I chose to go through informal rush. It was so low key and only the lesser known houses and the sororities that didn't really care about the above stuff had spaces so they could host informal rush. I ended up going to only one house and joined.
