4a and 4b hair strands.

ive got roughly 2.5-3 inches of new growth. im transitioning from relazer to perm. i have been trying to find out what hair type i am, but im having trouble trying to figure it out. i was wondering if anyone has pics of 4a and 4b hair strands cause i cant tell what mine is since i have so little growth.

I don't have photos of strands (I took a few photos when I only had about an inch of natural, so those were useless), but here's an example of a 4a/4b from CrazyCoil's web site:

I consider myself mostly 4a (with 4b) and my strands are all over the place with about 4" of natural hair. Some strands are like a watch spring (like a slinky). Others initally form a perfect "O" and then grow into the slinky shape as they get longer. Other strands have little curl to them at all, but are slightly wavy or straight (kinky or frizzy hair). Others are very tight with loops and curls and similar to crazycoil's strands. Some of my hair clumps, some of it coils, and some of it does nothing be sit there and be. I think I have enough close-up photos in my photo albums to see the textures, if not individual strands.

I think 4a, 4b, and 3c have many different strand types and textures, so it's sort of hard to use Andre's system to figure out your type. BTW, I think that strand thickness and hair texture are more important to hair typing than curl diameter.

Oh, you should be able to see a curl pattern with 3" of natural hair if you cut the relaxed part off your strands.

sorry to bump this again. but i finally posted some pics of my hair strands in my fotki. i think its 4a? can someone verify or correct me if im wrong? thanks.

You probably won't believe this but I have strands like this too ,ones that are like wavy and then curl up like a pigs tail at the end , and everyone tells me i'm 3A go figure.

I'm going to take some pics of my strands like you did thanks for the idea.

oh maybe i should clarify. ive been transitioning for about 8 months. the wavy part is the relaxed part and the curly part is the new growth.
