I don't think it's cheating, I think it's just different ways of wearing your hair.

natural is natural...it doesn't matter how you style it. @least I don't think so
I define natural as being free of chemicals

LOL. I dont think that there is any such thing as cheating. You do what you do to achieve the look you want. However, I do not consider texturizing/silkening as natural because those are chemicals.

BTW, what is a comb thru?

You can't call it natural, but no one is grading you...or judging for that matter. I had a "natural look" for years, but it wasn't natural because I texlaxed. All natural is better.

Just wanted to point out, it's your hair on your head. NO one is paying your bills or buying your hair products so you owe no one any explanations or need to feel guilty about the choices YOU make.

Isn't this when you comb a relaxer through your hair quickly and then rinse it right out?

    Hi,

A comb thru is apparently what was known as a "bad relaxer" because it didn't take. It wasn't left on long enough to "get the kink out". I have been told that damage wise hair can go from natural (no chems not even colour), to braids/weaves (too tight can be damaging), to a comb thru, to a silkener, to a full relaxer/jheri curl.

I have never heard of a texlaxer what is that?

    ps Thx Empress!

I wouldnt call it natural but i dont see what you would be cheating at. Pick a look you like and go for it. No shame in that

I use a light softening at the roots of my daughter's hair. Just enough to make fixing her hair in the morning so much less stressful for her. If that is "cheating" then so be it. At least I do not have a crying little girl on my hands. Before I discovered how to do this, no matter how careful of gentle I was, my daughter hated having her hair combed.

No it's not cheating. There are no REAL rules to what natural really is. How can you cheat on something that doesn't have rules or exist. If there were rules everyone would be cheating someway or another. The most important thing is how you feel about it. Who cares about everyone else because they are the ones doing YOUR hair every morning. lol :)

I guess I would say cheating what?

Cheating on being natural?? Well using chemicals = no longer natural. So using a texturizer, a relaxer, a relaxer or texturizer left on for less time -- all chemicals changing the chemical sturcture of your hair = no longer natural.

But cheating on being yourself? Well then NOPE, NAW, HECKY NAW! LOL. Only you can determine how you want to be -- and if you're happy and comfortable then do you sweets! Besides its only hair right, do as you please. :)

It's not cheating unless you lie about it. But it's not natural, it's a way to get natural-looking hair.

If you decide to go about it chemically/non-chemically to loosen your curl, it doesn't matter. As long as you are taking care of your hair and making sure it stays healthy, that's all that matters.

    IMO:

No Chemicals to alter curl pattern=natural (notice how I said to alter curl pattern, as there are chemicals in shampoos, conditioners and there is hair dye for color... non of which are natural products, but I don't consider them to discredit natural hair)

However, there are some natural products that you can use that gently, and over time loosen your curl pattern. They don't have any synthetic ingredients, so If you used them, I'd still say you were natural. Even though it changes your curl pattern, they lack the synthetic chemicals.

But like everyone else said, do what works for you. We just want you to be happy with the hair on your head. Whatever makes you love it!

don't put that kind of pressure on yourself. no one [worthwhile] will judge you based on what you do to your hair.

however, if you texturize (use chemicals to achieve permanent, more defined and finer curls or waves) and tell people that your hair is natural, that wouldn't be truthful.
