Hi!

Im new here... At first I thought this board was specifically for those who knew they had curly hair and already had curly hair but I was wrong. SO now I have a place where I can tarnsition and find help! It seems to be a very warm community. The problem is WHERE DO I FIT IT? Ive had the hardest time classifying my hair. I have pics in my fotki but they confuse even some of the best classifiers. :? Sooooo anybody wanna take a guess? I posted here because I belive myself ot be on the 3c or 4a border but Ive gotten 'quotes' from 3a to 4b... So anyone? My album is in my siggy and its under the all about hair folder starting at the 6th pic in the December folder. I figured if I chopped a section that the relaxed hair wouldnt weigh down the natural hair but :( All suggestions are welcome!!!

    Welcome to the site! :)

It's kinda difficult to tell what your natural growth is with the relaxed pieces still attached, especially since your new growth looks different in each pic.

Typing really isn't that important. But I can definitely say that you won't be a 3a.

How long have you been transitioning? Do you plan on doing a big chop anythime soon, or will you do mini-chops along the way until you reach a comfortable length? I transitioned for a bit, and didn't do a BC until I had about 3-4 inches of relaxed pieces left. I probably should have just chopped it off, but I needed to pace myself. Cutting 12-15 inches of hair wasn't very appealing to me at the time I decided to go natural.

What I suggest is using the least amount of heat possible when styling. If you must flat-iron, use a ceramic iron(not gold plated) on the lowest possible setting(and don't reapply apply heat everyday) and use a satin scarf to keep the hair straight. Wet sets, protective styles(cornrows, twists(or twist outs), braids, buns, etc), and deep conditioners(treatments) will be your best friends while transitioning and when natural.

I also suggest investing in a good conditioner, such as Elucence(which is also a leave in), as well as a dt. Many of the ladies here LOVE [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curl-Ecstasy-Hair-Tea-Conditioner-p-888.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curl-Ecstasy-Hair-Tea-Conditioner]Curls Curl Ecstasy Hair Tea Conditioner[/buylink]. Both of these products can be purchased here at CURLmart. But, if your're happy with the products that you use, continue to use them. I found that alot of the products I used while transitioning didn't work so well once I went completely natural. It's all trial and error, and can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but the end result is SO worth it.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me or post here. But I'm sure the other curlies will add some more helpful info/advice.

My transition started May 13, 2005 so about 7 months in. I do not think I will BC fo another 2 years. I just recently did a HUGE minichop. Im really not a fan of me having short hair. Looks great on others but Ive never had haoir shorter than this. I want to grow my hair back again before I chop anythign else.

I really like Keracare Humecto conditioner in the tub *completely differnet from the bottle* but I dont know of any good leave ins. I think I will transition with braids as they have woked so far. My line of demarcation has not been a problem so I think a long transition won be to harsh :) The new growth does look different in each pic thats why Im so confused! :? In person its even more confusing but now I think that in general Ill stick with the 3c and 4a forums.

    BTW whats a dt?

Welcome! I wouldn't try to type you until more of your chemicals have grown out. But it looks like your natural hair might be a 3b/c. Keep us posted :)

Hello and welcome. It looks like you may be a 3c/ 4a. You really don't have enough new growth, but I'm willing to make a guess.

BTW, I think you would look cute with short hair!
