Scary flat-iron paranoia

ok, so i flat iron my hair about once a month, wear it straight for about a week and a half, then go back to curly. This time it seems like my hair is much drier and not as soft as it usually is when its curly. Very unmanageable. Can anyone give suggestions that will make my hair bounce back without having to cut the ends. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

How is it unmanageable? Is is frizzier? Has is reverted back to it's original form, or do you have pieces that are either straight or just look like fuzz?
Is it just the ends that you're having problems with, or is it all of your hair?

I can probably give more rec's when I know the answers to the questions.

The only thing I can suggest right now is to do a deep treatment every week until your hair bounces back.

Well, i have some very bad relaxed/highlighted ends, which are always dry anyway. It just seems drier and more tangled everywhere in general. It's really thick anyway but the tangles are a pain. The curls are still there but just look a little worn out. I did a deep treatment this morning and it seems to help a little. Have a happy holiday and thanks for any help you can give.

I don't know how much help I can provide since I'm kind of bias against using any kind of iron (curling or flat) since it always seems to dry out my hair. :?
However, I have found that doing a DT at least once a week (like shygirl already suggested) and use a leave in conditioner to prevent further damage from the heat helps me on the occasions that I do use a curling iron or a hair dryer with heat.
HTH! (Even though its not much :?

thanks for the advice. the only reason i straighten it is because its so cold here and washing every day is a hassle. i've been wearing it curly sincne i've found some holy grails. my goal now is to not straighten it until i decide to get a trim, or maybe not until after summer(which is pretty unlikely) thanks!

I hear you! Even though the winters here in Fair Oaks are pretty mild, it still is pretty cold going out with wet hair! I have been using my hair dryer more often than I would like in order to avoid going out in the cold with wet hair. 2nd day hair has never really happened for me, so to the hair dryer I go! (Or maybe a hankercheif or hat
