Hair is almost TOO "limp"/"soft" now....HELP!

I've been doing a modified CG thing since March 07 and have been happy for the most part of it (of course, a good cut helps the entire routine).

I REFUSE to use conditioner w/ any bad cones in it, but I do use a poo a few days a week.

Well, lately (the past few months or so), I've noticed that my hair will go flat and "lose" curl after awhile. It just flops.

A classic example would be like if I decide to just put it up in a scrunchy for a while (my hair is shoulder length). When I take it out, I might as well kiss the curl goodbye! I don't put it ALL up as in like a bun...but just like a pony tail...so the hair is still hanging down and back with curl.

And yes...I totally am using gel. Conditioner I am using is the V05 stuff (that tea stuff!). My Creme of Nature stuff seemed to have changed and it looks like it has BAD stuff in it now!!! :( Not to mention, it is harder to find lately.

Can hair just get TOO soft and go lifeless on this CG thing??? I feel like I need to go back to the old ways (cones, hairdryer, etc) in order to get life back into it.

Any insights?? How do I get my HAIR back???

Does the Vo5 conditioner you're using have stearalkonium chloride in it? That ingredient makes my hair overly soft and I can't use it, except as a detangler first on the days I shampoo. Or maybe you just need to clarify with either shampoo or an ACV rinse? Only other things I can think of is perhaps a trim is needed or possibly a stronger hold gel.

Sounds like you might be overconditioned. I find that an ACV rinse usually helps when my hair gets too soft like this. If you cowash several times a week, you might want to try just water washing some days.
Also, you mentioned you use the VO5 tea conditioner. I use and love this one also but I have to be careful about using conditioners with stearalkonium chloride in them too often cause they cause my hair to go soft and poofy. Most of the VO5 and Suaves have this ingredient. It's a softening ingredient, I think.
Some others might be able to make some other suggestions.

:toothy7:I might have beat you, but I actually went to one of your posts so I could copy "stearalkonium chloride" -- I can never remember how to spell it. :laughing7:

Huh. I have no idea if that stuff is in it. I will have to check!!!!

    Thanks for the insight.

Any good alternatives for a while to let my hair recoop???

Good information to know. Now I know that is why I don't like the cheap conditioners, they leave my hair too soft. With fine/thin hair that is lethal. Thanks for passing along the issue with the stearalkonium chloride.

Good topic. I've been struggling with the droopy curls, really soft, clean scalp for the past week even after using a clarifying shampoo on one occassion and using a sulfate/cone free shampoo on another.

I am somewhat convinced it is my "4 month old razor butcher job," but perhaps I can try another shampoo without the s... chloride in it.

Any other input is welcome of course.

    Thanks. :toothy5:

Yep, me too on the stearalkonium chloride.

I agree that an ACV may help, but you might also consider a protein treatment. Whenever my hair goes all limp, I give it a shot of protein (or use all products that contain it, rather than doing a treatment), and that just about always helps.
3a and strictly CG since August 2007. Porous and on the fine side. No to magnesium sulfate and glycerin. Yes to protein! Favorites:

Thank you! Ive been having the same issues as the OP-yepp, my v05 straberry has it in it.
So..um...I kinda fell off the CG wagon. I got sick of long curly hair about 6 months ago. I currently have a short a-line, which I flat iron, although I also wear it wavy sometimes. I still use sulfate-free poos (I'm madly in love with the Bodyshop's rainforest moisture) and silicone free conditioners.

I can never use the cheap conditioners. My hair always turns out limp with them. I guess it has expensive tastes. sigh.gif
