i just happened upon this survey. i think it's kinda neat. it doesn't measure just "left" and "right" - supposedly it measures different types of thought. you can take it at - http://www.politicalcompass.org/

my scores were:

Economic Left/Right: -5.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.51

i'm close to the dalai lama and nelson mandela.
3b/c, very fine, low porosity, average density
co-wash: suave naturals or nature's gate

    I thought I was WAY more liberal than this, too.

    That was fun - but I don't agree with some of their definitions of political catagories. For example, they say:

    "In our home page we demolished the myth that authoritarianism is necessarily "right wing", with the examples of Robert Mugabe, Pol Pot and Stalin. Similarly Hitler, on an economic scale, was not an extreme right-winger."

    Hitler was never a right-winger at all. The Nazis were the "National SOCIALIST Party". Socialism is just right of communism, but absolutely not on the right. Authoritarianism, actually, is not and never has been a right-wing concept. It is only recently (within the last 20 years) that it has been redefined that way.

    I'm glad to see that they are on their way to demolishing that myth.
