I want to start reading mystery and suspense novels and was wondering if anyone here likes reading these books and if any of you can recommend a few? Thanks!

I've read The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammet and really like that one. Someone also recommended James Ellroy, he wrote LA Confidential; I'm in the middle of another of his books, Black Dahlia and it's pretty good.

Both books are that 40's Hard Boiled detective novels. If that's what your looking for.

Have you read any of Sue Grafton's books? She has one for each letter of the alphabet starting with A is for Alibi. Her latest one just came out, for the letter S. They are about a female private eye named Kinsey Milhone.

I enjoyed the Mrs. Pollifax mystery series by Dorothy Gilman.
