Neither of us do. We were both young and stupid. Honestly, most 17 year olds are not well-equipped to be parents.

He keeps in touch with her as he can, mostly electronically as he now lives In GA. She feels that she has more of my personality that his, and she sees both of us in her looks.

I'm so happy for you all that it has worked out so smoothly. It's almost like you've doubled your family in one swoop. :)

I occasionally think about you and your daughter, and I'm glad to hear things have continued to go well.

Thank you (and thank you all) for the thoughts!

I had chuckle about the family doubling.

A few weeks ago, we had some bad storms here with flash flooding. My daughter and her Mother saw my neighborhood on TV. My daughter called me at work because her Mother was worried about me, lol. It was sort of cute.

I've brought it up before, but just to fill in for those who don't know -

I had a child in high school when I was 17 and put her up for adoption. She is now 21.

So, now to current events in that regard.

Her father (adoptive, not birth) called my Dad and said that she want to meet me. My Dad called me and we talked, and now my daughter has my phone number.

I'm nervous and excited and God knows what all else. I'd love to meet her and see how her life is, but I don't want to butt in or to try and take on a mother role. She already has a mother.

I just saw this. I didn't read the responses or follow up if there is one... Of course your daughter wants to meet you and is curious about you. Do you know if she has red curly hair? :) That must be a nerve racking situation in lots of ways, but the good things in life are rarely easy.

After reading your post, I think your daughter would probably feel very lucky to have you as a friend in her life. She might become like a little sister to you.

    I hope it goes well.

    I saw that after I posted :D That's a wonderful story!

With your gift for writing, why don't you write out a screenplay and sell it to Lifetime or a movie studio? The red curly hair is the best part of it. LOL

I am so sorry that I missed this thread 1 year ago. I am not sorry at all that I took 30 minutes to read nearly every post (I skimmed some of the "well wishes" ;) ).

RCC, this is a great thing and I am so happy for you, your daughter (and new friend), and your now extended family. Everything sounds like it couldn't have worked out better. Everyone is in a good place and good roles. I do have one request.

STOP MAKING ME TEAR UP> I'm at work damnit!

sending positive vibes to you. this is very exciting. and unnerving. i think i can understand a little about what you are feeling.

when i was 24, i found out that i had a half sister 10 years older than me. it was bizarre meeting a total stranger who looked a lot like me. she'd known about me all along, but i didn't know about her. we've kept in touch over the years, and see each other from time to time. but i have to say, the feelings/connection i have with her are more like that of a distant relative, if that makes sense.

at any rate, just wanted to wish you well.

I have a relationship like this with my sister. Except I'm the older, distant sister.

I didn't know what to say the first time 'round, and I still don't, but I have to say that I just can't stop smiling when I read through the thread. I'm so happy that this all worked out for you and her and my heart is now reduced to a puddle of happiness.

haha, I'd totally watch this as a lifetime movie, (more than twice!) it's so sweet.

Wow. Am first reading this, so I dont know what others have posted in response yet....

First of all.... DAMN, you dont look your age girl!

Secondly, you are a smart, no nonsense cookie (yes, it comes across in your posts). Dont anticipate or rehearse. Just take it as it comes. Be real, be in the moment and you will be great!

    Keep us posted!

What an amazing and surreal story! I read the entire thread before I realized it was a year old (duh)!

She is beautiful; her face shows strength and peace. It seems her parents raised her well. I'm glad for you...I bet all those years ago this was a painful and heartbreaking choice and you wouldnt have dreamt it could "end" this happily.

What a gift:) for you both.

Lol, Rudee, I owe it to genetic luck (my Mother doesn't look her age) and sunscreen.

GB, it was kind of cool to see a guy get misty eyed too!

I love all the support I've gotten on this thread. It's not often one goes this many pages without some sort of debate, lol.

Just a yearly bump because this is my favorite thread.

All is going well. We are getting along well and seem to have found a comfortable contact level and friendship.

She just finished her first year of teaching. She teaches at a pre-school for autistic kids. She loves it, and, as that was the focus of her degree, she is happy to be in her chosen career field.

We're spending a few days together soon, so I'll have to take some pics!
