I don't really see how describing the conflicts between race in this country, which are reflected in his own experience being bi-racial, makes him nuts. But then, I'm probably lying, right?
  • notegalnotegal Posts: 560Registered Users
Don't we want to vote for someone who is not racist? He sounds racist to me...but maybe I'm reading too much into it...So when he admits to doing drugs and drinking heavily we should vote for someone who's into that? But wait people want to ban drugs...isn't that the reason for the continuous "WAR ON DRUGS" campaign.... SHEEZ! I'm not trying to get my panties in a bunch but it sounds two faced to me....that's confusing and I don't agree with it IMO...Oh yea and the man will RAISE your taxes and will take away more rights...find some other news articles that are not for Obama and make your choice that way...news casters such as FOX news don't make up what they find...

So are you saying that the women who run nc.com will sensor this thread because "liberals like to hide their lies." I really don't think they censor like that. Or is it the website you pulled this article from that will censor it? This doesn't make any sense to me.

Why would you go on any website (especially one like this that is generally supportive of everyone) and throw out such insulting words? Do you think this will change the minds of anyone that's a liberal or moderate? Or are you just wanting to rant? If you want to state your views it would help your credibility a lot to not insult your audience first.

Also, have you read the book these quotes are pulled from? I've not so will reserve judgment until I've actually read it. IMO it's not really smart to trust anything on the internet that's not of some repute. Never heard of this website you pulled this article from so again I'll judge the words within the context of the message.

I don't know McCain and Obama well, but this is what I think:

Obama seems to be against the USA - Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement.

That treaty would give Colombia a boost (economically speaking) and its being delayed (thanks to the Democratic Party).

    And...

He seems to be leftist, and that's not good for Colombia.

...if I were american, I think I would vote for McCain. Besides, he gets along with our president, Alvaro Uribe.

Are you kidding? Take a look at Scott McClellan's book, and learn a little bit about "planted" news items.

George W. Bush had issues with drugs himself. Have you not followed his conversion and the reason behind it?

Finally, taxes in this country are a mess. You are already paying more than the top tier of wealthy individuals. That's what this administration has provided to a small sector of the country; which relies, like most Republican economic systems, on the "trickle down" theory. However, as a result of outsourcing, that theory has been dying a painful death for at least the last decade.

You are entitled to vote for anyone you want. However, arming yourself with information from a variety of sources, is the best way to make an informed decision. Read, listen to, and watch not only what supports beliefs you already have, but also sources that seem to offer a different take on things. You may wind up dismissing them, but you will learn something.

Finally, if after all that you still agree with your original position, and want to support McCain (take a look at his voting record regarding women's issues first, please), go for it. Stand up for your candidate. But you may have to answer to those who question your motivation, which is why learning about the "other side" can only help you.

Best Wishes, and happy fourth of July!

I love this country's political system.

So when he admits to doing drugs and drinking heavily we should vote for someone who's into that?

Ahem. As did George W. Did you forget that?

Barack's admission was about his past, he experimented as a young man. I have no problem with that. Just like I had no problem with GWB's former drug/alcohol usage. As long as it's in the past and not a current problem - what's the big deal?

    And great post, ninja dog.

Yes happy 4th of July! :toothy7:...and all I'm saying is these words have been taken from his books and they should be considered...what's wrong with that? Are you saying we shouldn't have the ability to speak out freely? The words may be out of context but they are still words to consider...

But words taken out of context can be made to form many different phrases with different meanings, and not what was originally meant, thus the context is QUITE important.
  • ninja dogninja dog Posts: 23,780Registered Users Curl Neophyte
Yes! ITO with StephS. Context is everything, which is why proper citation and credit for remarks in the original, is vital.

I did listen to the book as read aloud by Senator Obama. I think it's a very honest, sensitive retelling of his struggle as a bi-racial person. At no point did I feel like white people were demonized, though I have been thought by some on a much earlier post to have some racist (i.e., anti-black) views myself.

Of course you should speak out freely! That's why we're still a great country: we don't talk things to death (a la France, which I can say because I'm French by lineage, and have been bored aplenty by my own people), nor do we prevent open discourse (a la where do I begin?).

Please, notegal, consider your sources. Look very carefully at what's being said, and by whom. Both honesty and deceit are characteristic of human behavior, rather than political parties.

Finally, let's ask the most important question: are you and yours better off now than you were four, let alone eight, years ago? Take a look at the posting by the member who is struggling with grief over her 68 year old mother's need to get food from a pantry, for the first time in her life. Are we as a country better off as a result of the decisions made by the current administration?

BTW, Alexander Hamilton is my favorite founding father.

Look I'm simply saying they are words...should we or should we not consider them? I understand where you are all coming from. I may be out of line...but sometimes we need to consider things from another perspective. They are words that he has stated and shouldn't we consider them? That site picked those words from his book. Yes, it may be slanted in a more conservative manor, but they probably want it that way....as I stated above I'm not here to offend anyone so please don't blast me. I'm only giving ideas out there for viewers to read...I'm not saying what's right or what's wrong am I? ONLY what I believe. FOX news isn't as right winged as you would like to think...they may be more conservative, but they still talk about some of the same issues as MSNBC and CNN. You will never hear this kind of thing on MSNBC or CNN because they don't like to discuss it.

Maybe he was just talking about struggles and strifes of his lifetime...you have to get over it somehow...I don't agree with his statements I don't agree with many things that go on in our country due to politics. I don't even agree with G.W.Bush on topics. Bush and his administration is out of whack as well and I will admit that.
Look, people are entitled to believe what they want to believe. People only hear what they want to hear. I'm not putting anyone down, liberal or conservative. Many people are guilty of putting their foot in their mouth, and some don't like to admit it. How many times has Obama said something and then took it back as the media likes to say? That's on ALL of the news stations. I have to question comments that are said and then are taken back later...it's in my nature to question. On another note this election will change us for the good or the bad and we need to pay attention to ALL sides even if we don't like what we are hearing or seeing. That may be the hard truth but that's life. ALL news stations constantly put a spin on topics, that's something that they like to do. Unfortunately, they don't just report the news anymore they influence people's opinions about life in general. Who we should be afraid of, what we should be afraid of and where we should and shouldn't go. I simply found another source where quotes were taken DIRECTLY from his book and his audio book. Please don't tell me that it's being made up. He disguises his words so well and it's what he's really saying between the lines that I'm concerned about.

Words are just words without context, so there is no real reading into them, or between them. I think people are just trying to twist whatever they can find to make him look bad. No one can be as bad as the criminals currently running the show (and I mean that for both sides, not just Rep.).

As for the corporate news, it is common knowledge, or should be by now, that this administration has fed the networks what THEY want broadcasted, FOX being the most cooperative. That amounts to propaganda, no matter which network you favor. And it is wrong. That is why I get NO news from television. Internet only, and I do research all sides every time I want to get information about an issue.

Also - there have been many, MANY times people have had to retract or re-word what they have said due to the media blowing it up and interpreting it - you got it! - OUT OF CONTEXT. During the primaries, all of the candidates had to do that at some point. So attacking only Barack for that is not fair.

I'm here to rebuke what you are saying about George W. Bush. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush_substance_abuse_controversy

and YES Wikipedia is a valid source...
    Illegal drugs

Bush has refused to discuss speculation that he has used illegal drugs, but has said that when his father became president in 1989, and required White House employees to affirm that they had not used illegal drugs for 15 years, he would have passed that test.[12][13]
A conversation between Bush and an old friend and author, Doug Wead, touched on the subject of use of illegal drugs. In the taped recordings of the conversation, Bush explained his refusal to answer questions about whether he had used marijuana at some time in his past. “I wouldn’t answer the marijuana questions,” Bush says. “You know why? Because I don’t want some little kid doing what I tried.” When Wead reminded Bush that the latter had publicly denied using cocaine, Bush replied, "I haven't denied anything."[14]
In 1999, St. Martin's Press published a book[15] claiming that Bush had been arrested for cocaine possession and that he had the record expunged. The publisher claimed at the time that the book had been "carefully fact-checked and scrutinized by lawyers",[16] but soon afterwards recalled it and pulped all copies after it came to light that the author, James Hatfield, had been convicted in 1998 of attempted murder and in 1992 of embezzlement, had spent five years in prison, and had falsely claimed that his vanity novel about James Bond was authorised by the copyright holder.
In February 2004, Eric Boehlert in Salon magazine claimed that Bush's cessation of flying in April, 1972 and his subsequent refusal to take a physical exam came at the same time the Air Force announced a Medical Service Drug Abuse Testing Program, which, he wrote, was officially launched on April 21, 1972. He further claimed that while the drug testing took years to implement, "as of April 1972, Air National guardsmen knew random drug testing was going to be implemented."[17] Other sources indicate that the U.S. military did not introduce drug testing until the 1980s.[18]

On a side note Bush makes a claim saying it was a mistake he made and doesn't want people doing the same thing.
So do you still want to vote for someone such as Obama, who needed the use of hardcore drugs to help him during his struggles?...IMO it sounds like a man who's not right in the head and is very weak. So tell me why do people want to vote him as Commander in Chief???? Medication is not the cure all end all neither are hardcore drugs. Doesn't sound stable at all...

All of that is so very vague. Unless you knew him way back when before politics, no one knows HOW LONG he "tried" any substance.

What he did was absolutely NO different than what Obama, or even Clinton did, for that matter. Obama has only been more candid, that's all.

So how you can hold Obama in a more negative light for the same offense doesn't seem fair.

edited to add: I re-read your post, and it seems that you are under the impression that Obama's drug use was recent? Do you think that?

You know what? Let's face it...people will attack left and right winged politicians all of the time. Things will come out eventually about both parties in time.
How can you say Wikipedia is vague? Tell me how that is vague I guess I don't see it. Those are STRAIGHT GET TO THE POINT FACTS! I'm just basing my decision off of continuous research about this man. I don't like what he stands for. He doesn't believe in freedom...he wants to take that away. He will take away many rights that we need in this country to survive. He will put BIG BROTHER IN CONTROL you just wait and see.... I believe our constitution was created for a reason... NOT TO BE CHANGE or ALTERED in anyway. That man gets into the hot seat and we will all be screwed. It will be worse before it gets better...however on a good note maybe ONLY then people will wake up and we will have a much needed wake up call. A Revolution that we so needed. I'm not here to change your opinions. Believe what you want to believe, but trust me if he gets into office this country will never be the same.

How can you sit there and not see what he's really saying? He admits to all of his beliefs and he still believes those no matter if he says he doesn't. People don't change their minds over night when they have believed the same things for years.... Clinton was absolutely no saint...the man couldn't even remember to the numbers of the most important box to our country!

And you read that wrong I do not think it was recent. It's what's in his book. IT'S WHAT HE WROTE AND HE SAID IN AUDIO! I know it's not recent...but would you still vote for a man who has had a shaddy past? IS that healty for our country?

WHERE ARE OUR STANDARDS GOING? WE JUST KEEP LOWERING THE STANDARDS IT'S RIDICULOUS! No wonder other countries hate us! We became America for a reason to get away from the Socialist, Marxist, Communistic ideas such as Obama, and he's just one example. We didn't want government control, we didn't want corrupt politicians just in it for power and money. We wanted a fair and unbiased government only there to give a helping hand not control us and tell where we can smoke, or if we have 2nd Amendment rights, or how to run our businesses, or to tell us we have to pay insurance for everyone!

Go ahead and accuse me of being mean, unfair, and negative, but at least I'm looking for the TRUTH not someone's two faced lines that are constantly changing every time I turn around. That's not politics that's just rhetoric and means absolutely nothing in my book.

I'm sorry, but your ranting is sounding nuts. Obama's a communist? He will put BIG BROTHER IN CONTROL??

"but trust me if he gets into office this country will never be the same."

for the love of god, please let this happen.

Change the heading right this minute your lady! You shouldn't have to worry about offending anyone for having your own opinion!

Don't we want to vote for someone who is not racist?

You may vote for whomever you wish. And I certainly hope your candidate is not racist.

Why would you go on any website (especially one like this that is generally supportive of everyone)

How long have you been around? I've been called pretty much every name in the book for submitting my opinion and supporting someone else.

Notegal - I knew when I saw the name of the thread that you were stirrin' up a poopy storm
    !

    >>Never heard of this website you pulled this article from so again>>

Look a little closer at the upper left corner. It is a radio station in Denver, CO. You have heard of Denver, haven't you?

Here's the link to the interviewer's bio.

I don't know McCain and Obama well, but this is what I think:

...if I were american, I think I would vote for McCain. Besides, he gets along with our president, Alvaro Uribe.

Thanks for your input. I assume you are Colombian?
