Shea Butter Conditioner?

Blood_RedBlood_Red Posts: 49Registered Users
I'm really tight for cash and my current conditioner is not lasting very long so I was thinking about making my own.

My question is really would shea butter make a good conditioner or would/should I mix it with something else?

Or use something else altogether?

I wanted to keep the amount of products and ingredients I use to a minimum. I'm also worried about whether it'll be too heavy on my hair because I've read that a little goes a long way.

Please help with any suggestions. :(. Thanks :).

I don't have an answer, but will be very interested to see what others say too! I'm starting to head the all (or at least mostly LOL) natural route at the moment so this is good info for me as well! Thanks for asking it....:D

Here's a great place to get the butters or oils.

    http://www.oilsbynature.com/product-category/butters.htm

Just a caution. If you don't keep ingredients around, the initial investment will be a lot of money. You are going to need to buy preservative and possibly emulsifier. You may want to go some of the lotion/soap/cosmetic websites to look for recipes and products. When I started on the boards and thought to make product, I read through the old threads on the this board.

Just bought some "pure" shea. Don't know if it's the same thing but if you check at any African grocery or hair store it's sold there very cheap...the most $6.00.

Mix the shea butter with something else. It is heavy stuff on my fine waves. Experiment by using small quantities first added to a conditioner you already have otherwise it will take a few co-washes or an ACV treatment to get out of your hair.

Mix it with some of your conditioner to try it out.
