Don't want to burst your bubble, but I don't think you're a 3. 3s have spirals all over. I do think you're a 2b, borderline 2c. 2cs will have some spirals mixed in with the waves. That said, as you continue the CG routine, your hair possibly may get curlier because its well taken care of and more moisturized.

For the life of me, I can't get the bottom canopy of my hair to curl more. My stylist suggested scrunching, scrunching, and more srunching but that can only do so much. My bottom canopy is stuck as a 2a. I saw more waves/curls in my top canopy with better hair care and products.

I can suggest using a strong-hold gel to help set and keep the waves. A good drugstore leave-in that seems to be popular is leaving in some Suave coconut conditioner. I haven't tried it, but I've seen a lot of posts about it. I have tried the following: [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]Kinky Curly Knot Today[/buylink], [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Fast-Food-p-27.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-fast-food]AG Fast Food[/buylink], SheaMoisture, and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]Jessicurl Too Shea[/buylink] (a rinseout conditioner but I just left some in by not rinsing out completely). The ones I've tried aren't available in brick and mortar stores (unless you live near a Kinky Curly retailer).

Well, i have shorter layers, a bad cut, thinned out, old suave condish, basically no leave in, and a terrible gel, adn the wrong kidn of clips. My canopy is dry too. Yahh. Oh and ive already been modifeied so maybe if i fix most of that, that would help?

Sorry, I'm gonna hop on here and say you're not a 3 either. It's just too wavy and while there may be a few spirals, they seem to be few and far between. So my vote would be a solid 2b.

Whatever conditioner you use right now can be used as a leave-in. I recommend getting something that is super-duper moisturizing. It helped me get better curls. I do use mostly professional product, but buy them at the grocery store (Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Walmart, KMart, Sally's, etc.). I just had kickin' success with TIGI Creative Genius. It says it's a light hold gel, but I think it's a hard hold.

Also, in the pictures, it seems like most of them were taken when wet. Were some of those dry pics? If not, can we get dry pics? That I think would help us better with suggestions.

As for the canopy, I plop to get it to curl better. And use a spray gel in that area to make sure it gets enough of a holding compound to hold the curl. Make sense? Clear as mud?

So I'm gonna jump in and say that I think your hair is gorgeous!!! What I wouldn't give to have sexy, beachy, mermaidy waves *sigh* I have no clue what your hair type is (am soooo bad at that). And, really what "type" your hair is doesn't matter because I have found a few girlies here whose hair is similar to mine, but they have "typed" it differently than I would type mine. Totally confused me at first too! I thought I was going nuts! But, really you know your hair best. Also, the healthier my hair got, the more I realized that my canopy is less curly, the front and sides are medium curly and the underneath is WHOA! curly LOL I try to focus on the majority of the curls, which are medium curly. So my only advice to you (because my hair does not look like yours ) is to simply find others whose hair looks like yours does regardless of how they label their own hair and find out what stuff they use and what methods work for them. Do not be shy!! Everyone is super flattered when a newbie asks for advice :blob7: But chin up! This site will totally change how you care for your hair. The goal is healthy, shiny, sexy hair no matter what type it is!!

I agree that you look pretty wavy, but as you get your hair in better condition (which it sounds like you're on your way), it's possible that you could see more curls... also, 3A's quite often see more curl with more length, so growing it out some could give you more curl.

I'd say a solid 2. Your hair doesn't look to be in bad condition to me but it can't hurt to try the real CG thing if you'd like to see more curl. I've been CG for years and I can't say that I saw big difference in my curliness but the curls look better since they appear more defined and clumpy than before. Also, products can make a huge difference....you might try plopping and really scrunching in some gel with some hold.

Totally agree - your hair looks awesome!!!

That being said I also agree that sometimes we look at someone's curl as a 3 a or b thinking it's like ours and it's the furthest thing from it. I see people with 3 a or b and they have awesome curls with no frizz. Mine is coarse and thick so I really don't think the type of curl matters as much as the type of hair does........my goodness does that make sense?
:toothy7:between Botticelli & Corkscrew curly-very thick, coarse hair
