When you were a baby...

Did you have little to no hair when born? Did it take forever to grow in (12-18 months)?

Both of my kids and I were born with very little hair. My daughter's hair took forever to come in and when it did it was curlier than mine. I couldn't tell how curly hers was going to be at first because it was so short and started out wavy. My 7-month-old baby boy has even less hair than my daughter did at the same age. His hair has grown, at most, a half-inch in the last 5 months. So, I assume he's going to have curly hair.

I was almost two before I had hair. My mom was worried that I would be bald, but her hairdresser assured her that when it finally came in, it would be nice and curly and it was!!!

I barely had any hair on my head when I was two and three years old. My mother tape a small bow on the top of my head for a pix so people could tell I was a girl. I still didn't have much hair and it was thin and blond when I turned four but it finally started to grow and thicken up and it was curly, curly!! I'm 33 now and still have the same amount of curl.
My son was the same way until he was 3.

My mom hated the taped on bows, so she just dressed me in pink clothes CONSTANTLY (and I mean every day) until my curls grew in. From pictures, it also seems that there were lots of lacy collars and baby bonnets involved in my first wardrobe. She got so hurt when people would call me a boy.

I was bald all the way up until I was 2 or 3. My mom had to dress me in pink all the time because of it, and somehow I was STILL mistaken for a boy.

In all my baby pictures, my hair bows are taped onto my head with Scotch tape.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.

I was bald until 2 or so and then got a thick head of curly/wavy hair. My DD was bald until almost 3...she's got thick, wavy hair...that is so shiny. My DS had a little hair when he was born his hair came in quickly, he had a full head by 2...however, his is thick, and coarse.

i had a ton of hair when i was born. my mom said as soo as i came out i already had a head full of thick, black, curly hair. the color has lightened now to a dark brown. it is still very thick and curly, though. but i don't even know how to explain pictures i have seen. it is bizarre how much hair i had. i have a three year old cousin who still has way less hair than i did when i was born.

i had a headful of black straight hair when i was born. then it fell out on the sides and back so i had a ton of hair on top that turned curly.

my daughter was born with a head full of straight brown hair too. it was wavy when wet and then it would dry straight. shes 11 months old now and has big curls. the sides and back of her hair fell out too, but se has a massive amount of hair on top while the back and sides are filling in still.

I was bald until I was 2ish. I never knew this was a somewhat of a curly-headed thing! Wow. My sister, however, had a lot of hair that turned more and more wavy as she got older. My hair is curlier than hers though.

My mom also used to dress me in pink and put stick-on bows on my head so people wouldn't think I was a boy! Or she'd tie bows around my head completely. haha.

...And I don't have a kid, I just saw the topic and thought it was interesting and posted. :)

I was born bald. I think it finally grew in a little, but it fell out due to cradle cap. I was 2 before I had any hair. Now it's thick, fine, and curly.

I also had bows taped to my head, dressed in pink and lace. Now I won't go near pink, lace or bows. :fish:

I was born with a full head of blonde, straight hair. After about a year it started getting darker and curlier, until I became a 3b brunette :)

I was born with full head of dark brown hair. The nurses even attempted to put a pony tail in it! I wish I had the picture but it's back home in WI. By the time I was 1 I had Shirley Temple curls. It's still a lot of hair to this day.

The general trend seems to be that curly hair takes a long time to get going, but here I must claim an exception. From what I can see in baby pictures of myself, my hair was quite thick within the first few months. My avatar is from a pic of myself at about three years old - the cherubic appearance is most deceptive. :toothy7:

I had like a faux-hawk when I was born. I have a pic of me as a baby with little-no hair on the sides and this one big tuft nearish the front that my mom combed flat.

By the time I was 2 or so I had ear length hair with flippy waves. I didn't have curls til I was twelve or so.

I was born with a head full of thick black 3b/c curls and it just took off from there the color just changed from black to brown. I find that most babies that I know who are born with no hair usually end up with a head full of lovely thick spirals.

I thought I was the only one who was bald until I was two! my mom was shocked when she suddenly noticed my baby hair curling after my bath one night. I now have a THICK mane of dark hair, while my sister, who had a head full of silky black hair, now has very, very thin straight hair.

lol That sounds like me. My mom said I had so much hair that the nurses kidnapped me and put all kind of bows and barettes in my hair. My hair was curly, jet black, fine and abundant. I can't believe how much hair I had looking back on the pictures. The funniest thing is though my mom and dad were born bald. My mom's hair didn't start growing until she was 3!!

My (wavey) hair came in early, but my curly twins had almost no hair until after their first birthday. Late hair and curliness do seem to corelate.

I hate looking at those pictures from my first birthday. Bald as could be! By the time I was 2, I had picture perfect Shirley Temple curls. Now I am a very dark burnette with 2b waves/curls (straighter on the top with the short layers and curls in the back).

My 25 year old was born with brown hair. Noticed some flat waves on the top at her first birthday. by 15 months, full blown wild golden curls! Much tighter than my were!

I was born with no hair, and then had very fine, straight blond until I was about two. It then came in light brown with wispy curls. I didn't get the curls that I now have, 3B, until I was about 12. I don't know why. I am 14 now and it gets curlier all the time.

I was born with a head full of 3b, 3c curls. It grew really fast but by the time I was 2 or 3 my entire head turned 4a.
3c/4a in the front, 4b in the back, with a few sprinkles of 3c in random spots.

I was born with a full head of nearly jet black hair that was PIN straight. My parents tell me that within a month or so it MAJORLY poofed... there are oh-so-many pictures to prove this :angry7:

    My three kids:

My 7 year old daughter was born with long, straight jet black hair. She has always had a full head of hair. Now it is incredibly thick (volume), with coarse (thick) strands (much like Asian hair) and is 3c-4a. It also grows very fast, and is down to her butt (straight).

My 4 year daughter was practically bald until she was about 1-1/2 years old! Her hair finally fully thickened up when she turned 3. She now has fine and very soft strands, medium thickness hair and is 2b-3a. Her hair does not grow very fast. I keep it at about shoulder length (curly) because when it gets longer than that, it loses its curl.

My 2 year old son has always had a moderate amount of hair. He has medium thickness, medium textured strands. He has big 3b curls.

They all have light brown hair now.

I was born with a head full of jet black, straight hair. I now have 4a-b, thin cottony strands, medium-to-dense thickness hair.

I was born with a full head of hair. It was blond with waves until age 10, then it darkened and became curlier.
    I'm 15 now, and it's brown with 2c/3a curls.

I was born with a full head of bone-straight hair that everybody thought was jet-black until my mom held me in front of a sunny window to show the red tint it had.

On my infant pic (approx 6-8 months old) most of the back and sides had 'rubbed off' and I had some longish 2b-3a curls on the top only.

By the time I was 3 or 4, I had a full-thickness dense head of 3b almost to my waist. It was reddish brown with red streaks mostly on top and front--probably because I used to spend most of my time outdoors in the sun.

Even though it's mostly brown now, it shows up as totally red when I take photos out in the sun. If I go to a salon and get curled with those stove curlers, it looks almost totally black. Some days I don't know what color my hair is.

My mom says I was born with a "perfect swirl of platinum hair." At my second birthday, I had chin length hair with baby ringlets at the bottom. As I got older it got darker and straighter and then around 11, it got wavy/curly again.

Wow, my youngest sister's hair is just like this except it's about 3b. She and I have the same size curls except my hair is fine and hers is just as you decribed. Her hair is much less prone to frizz than mine (and it's jet black). It's harder to straighten, too. She had a head full of jet black, straight hair as a newborn. She was a very bald infant compared to me.

My daughter was a very bald infant too, but she now has a THIIICK, DENSE, FINE full head of 4a (whew!). Her hair actually seems finer than mine, it's like a big huge fluffy soft cloud. Her pigtails only come about to her neck, but when stretched it's well below her back. She inherited my color, though, hers has a more ash tone than red/auburn.
