Curlers? Roller sets?

jmwjmw Posts: 130Registered Users
My hair is shoulder length when wet, and half way grown out. I'm probably a 3b. I'm always pulling my hair up, or flat ironing it because it looks horrible right now. I need to look more professional, and I don't have the time to fuss with my hair everyday. I had bought a cheap bunch of velcro rollers a while ago and those never worked for me: they never pulled my hair tight enough at the roots. I was wondering if anyone else uses some kind of roller set that they have good results with? If so, what kind is it/where did you get it?

Congrats on your progress so far! Here are three threads that may be helpful for you:

    Flexi rod set - http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=42066

When i transitioned...I flatironed and pressed the whole time which left me with some heat damage. If I had known about doing these fancy type of rollersets....I would have been better off :-)

I rollerset about once a month and it can last me up to 10 days if I wrap it up at night.

You can find some tutorials on Youtube. Healthy Textures sells a how-to video on their website http://healthytextures.typepad.com/my_journey_to_healthy_hai/2007/10/roller-setting-.html

Rollersetting is one of those things where practice makes perfect. I usually do it when I'm tired of wetting my hair every day and I want to achieve straight hair without all the heat. I do use a flatiron, but I might start trying the saran wrap method to see if I can avoid some heat. I used to do the rollersets once a week when I was transitioning and it was a lifesaver. It was the only way I could hide my hair until I was ready to do the big chop.

i have magnetic rollersets that work pretty well and curlformers. both i got at sally's. i'm personally not a fan of curlformers. they are easy to do and get your roots pretty straight, but i just don't like the spiral look on me (look too young). but if you like spirals, they're great!
I found my HG's: HEHH, DB's Madagascar Vanilla Styling Creme

I have shoulder length straight hair that I curl daily, for work I use hot curlers and get a larger curl that stays in all day. On weekends i do a wet set and let my hair dry naturally but I use smaller curlers and my curls last 2 days. I shower every morning before work and thats the only reason I curl my hair daily. Steve

    Hey jmw:

I found that rods did wonders with my hair and looked really cute. (Don't forget the tissue paper for the ends. Makes a huge difference.) I actually miss this hair style. It helped to blend my two textures. My hair was really healthy too! For styling product I used Miss Jessies Buttercreme and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]Curly Pudding[/buylink] or [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Meringue-p-576.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-meringue]Curly Meringue[/buylink]; not too much though! I wore this hairstyle for about 8 months before my BC in July 07.

Don't know if you have myspace, but you can check out my pics here: http://www.myspace.com/jamaica81

The ones in the green jacket are with the rod set.
