newbie with a problem..

Hi,

Ok, so I'm trying to transition into "natural" hair. The reason I say it like that is because I have a texturizer in a small part of my hair that's kinky. I just wanted to blend... heh... I havn't had a relaxer in at least 7 months but I was getting a relaxer for 9 years before that. I wore my hair in braids for the first few months without a relaxer and it helped alot! It got rid of the damaged hair from over-processing. Well.. most people would suggest that I trim the relaxed hair off, but I'm Pentecostal. I choose not to cut my hair for religious beliefs. That and I'm not sure what my natural hair texture is... Could anyone help me? I really don't know what to do with my hair

by the way, my hair is 10 inches long, more or less, with about 3-4 inches of curly hair

any help here?

this isn't a clear pic but, the texture between the straight hair and wavy hair is my natural texture (the curlies; these are clip in extensions)

note: I have NO IDEA how to care for my hair so this is frustrating

I'll try to upload a better pic soon

WELCOME :) Your hair looks like 3c/3b but the pic is not really clear. In the transitional season you must do lot's of deep conditioning,do little trims every once in a while(since you don't want to do the bc),co-washes more than shampoo washes and a very good moisturizer :) Good luck!

Since I'm moving to nigeria in a couple of months and staying till I graduate ('09) I think I'm going to buy a lacewigs and give my hair a good break from everything:toothy7:

You look like you could be a 3C, but until the relaxed ends are gone you really won't know until then.

I understand your religious beliefs, but you're gonna have to cut those relaxed ends eventually. You can trim a few inches a month until its all gone, but it might take a 2 yrs. I hope you can find a way around that. If you do have to keep the relaxer, I would suggest rollersets and buns. Its the best way to hide the difference in texture.

    Good luck! :thumright:

With the clip in extensions and relaxer and stuff, it's hard to see what your real hair is about. I can see why you would be confused.

If you want natural hair there are 2 things you need to accept: your natural texture and length. You will most likely have to deal with the reality of having short hair for awhile, as it grows. If there is a professional in your area who can trim your hair of the relaxed ends, that's a good start.

If you are going to be in Nigeria for a year, it's a little hot for wigs, isn't it? You may want to think about braid extensions to let your hair and scalp breathe in the hot weather. Check out the Crown and Glory method of transition and growth. That way you don't have to worry about styling your hair, and you can find a braid specialist to redo your braids easier than you can find a curly hair specialist in Nigeria.

It's just that we don't believe in cutting out hair at all.. but most likely when I move out and my hair is long enough I'll take the relaxed part off. as for c&g I've been following it :thumright: this is my 2 month break from braids. putting them back in before I move

Don't even bother with lacefront wigs in Africa!!!:sad8: I used to wear to give my hair a rest and grow it. Figuring out the glue to attach them is difficult and the change in temperature, plus getting the glues shipped to you internationally just to name a few issues. i agree that you are better off with braids...or do some wet sets! They are fun..twists, rods sets and they will blend the natural hair with the relaxed ends. My hair looked exactly like yours. I thought I was a 3C, but since I've bc'd I am more like a 4a. I wore a weave for a year, but then bc'd after I couldn't stand it anymore. I probably should have done wetsets to get a little more length bfore doing the bc. Sorry for the long post!

I think I might stick with the C&G for a while and use the wig clip method for the lace wig. no one with know unless they yank it off my head and if they do.... haha
but I think braids suit me more than twists and rod sets

Well unless your hair has been consistently breaking off at the ends in the same place, it looks like youve had your haircut before. I'm not trying to question your beliefs but theres gotta be a way the church will let you cut your hair.

It's been cut before, but not really on purpose. oh, the joy of babysitting..... and like a (think) I said I'm going to cut it once its long enough. Personally, I don't think a lady will go to hell for cutting her hair, but thats what they believe

If you can straighten it, why is cutting the culprit?

Wow, no disrespect, I don't want you to feel like I'm attacking you, but I don't personally know any Pentecostal so I am so intrigued. They really believe a woman will go to Hell just for cutting her hair?!?! What happens if you say a bad word? Anyways, I don't think you should wear wigs either but of course you have to do what works for you and is comfortable. Definitely co-wash. I am transitioning and since I've been doing it my hair is sooooo soft and easy to comb. Good luck.

the pastor of the church I was raised in belives that interracial (I don't really know. my english is 90% good haha) marraige is bad so when I brought up moses and his wife a lot of drama started and the next sunday there was a sermon on women and their hair. I really dont think pastor XXXXX has a good judgement.

by the way, do you know a pastor white in texas?

Trust me when I say God will not be judging you on the length of your hair when it's all said and done. Study for yourself.

I have been transitioning since July and I have not cut my hair at all because I'm not ready for short hair yet. I do need a trim BAD. Since you are going to a HOT climate, I recommend getting braids again. Like the other ladies said you will have to eventually cut off the relaxed hair.

Auburn Sunset, OMG I love your hair! So beautiful!

schwarz_engelblut, I don't usually talk politics or religion, but my only suggestion to you is to read the bible yourself and study it. I don't always trust what humans say, I like to find the truth for myself. I read the bible from Genesis to Revelations 4 yrs ago and I study it regularly. If anybody says something that is contrary to God I will at least have the knowledge to guard my mind or have a nice discussion.

Our hair is our crown and glory. I also know that God made our kinks and curls so that means its good
