Curly Hair Model

So last week I went to the Curly Hair Institute. They were doing a before and after and of course using their products. They told me not to put any product on my hair that day – so Jonathan could see the ‘real’ me! So…bottom line is that I live 4 hours away. Woke up and co-washed and just put a leave-in on. I figured that wasn’t really a product – right? So……….got on the train with this lovely halo of frizz covering my hair. I just knew everyone was looking at me! Arrived in TO with my sister meeting me (another curly girl but with no frizz). She just said WOW! I think that says it all!

We did arrive at the Salon….however because I wanted to make a point I had a bag with eyes cut out with make-up and lipstick. I put this over my ‘lovely’ hair and walked into the salon. First lady thought she was being robbed; when they took a look they all laughed. Jonathan came out and loved my idea.

They took me to a spot and had my make-up done (not really but they added more colour because it wouldn’t show up in the pictures). I would not have left my house without make-up!!! (don’t know why because no one would recognize me!) They then did all sorts of before pictures; Jonathan did my hair with his products (which I use) and told me stuff about my hair I didn’t know. He told me that my roots were thick and that by the ends of my hair things got thin. He asked me if anyone had thinned my hair lately………………..yup! Last time I went to my previous hairdresser last March (1 year ago) she took the thinning scissors to my hair! Good grief I knew then she shouldn’t do it but didn’t know then that it would haunt me forever.

Bottom line is that he made my hair much curlier than I get it. He also showed me how to get height at the back (which is normally flat). He suggested that I comb my hair from the back to the front (with product in) to fight the fact that the hair wants to lie down with water. Also showed me how to put clips into the top for height. They then took all sorts of after pictures………one of which showed me with the bag!

When I mentioned I was on Naturally Curly he told me how often he reads it, that he reads the threads and relates to them! That he really has a ton of respect for the originators – how nice they are and how they care about the site.

Okay now as soon as I get the pics I will post them…….I will stop talking now!:silent:

Sounds like a great day, glad it went so well. I think you're very brave going out without product, especially on the train, I can't imagine ever doing that, I'd feel naked! Looking forward to the pics.

WOW!! Your hair looks fantastic! What a difference in the before & after pics! I love the makeup they did, too. You're too funny going in there with that bag over your head. Glad you made it past the front door without getting arrested!

Most of the pics are coming I just put up the ones I can hardly wait to see them as well. He was in a big show this week-end so am not expecting him to send them to me til perhaps later in the week. And yes I think a before and after will be on his site.

Notty, that is such a cool experience to have had! The pictures are great -- they really show how thirsty curly hair can be and how beautifully it responds to what it needs.

    Love the bag idea. :)

Your hair looks great! Thanks for posting about your experience.
Grace sets apart Christianity from all other religions.

No other religion offers God's love and redemption coming to us free of charge, as a gift, with no strings attached, no performance required, no standard to meet.

Only Christianity dares to make God's love unconditional.

What a cool experience. Your hair turned out beautifully.

What products did he use on your hair?
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!

Notty: Even without product, your hair still looks fab! I also love the artwork on the bag...I could only wish to be able to be that artistic. I guess I'll just have to continue with my expressions through makeup.:tongue2: <<<--Though it's hard to make this look good, even with makeup!

And your hair looks begorgeomous (I say it's a word, so it's a word!). Very beautiful. I'm jealous. Very jealous.

Riot: That was my thought process when Notty told us he reads the threads! Oh, well...maybe he'll make it look more gentle on-screen. I believe Notty when she says he's not that rough in real life.

    Notty-
You're soooooo lucky! I'm a new CK convert...and loving it.
So, did they shampoo too? Haven they converted you on that front as well? I'm gonna finish off my Deva poo/condition and then maybe try CHS's Shampoo & Condition. My mentality...I love his other products.....might as well try the others..I'll probably love those too.
I so wish JT made house calls b/c there is NO way you'd get me out of the house w/no make up and let them take pictures.
Well, your hair and makeover came out GREAT!
    Congrats!

I absolutely would not have left the house without make-up - but honestly don't know why - because no one would recognize me. It was hard enough to go on the train with no hair product - but then I thought I'd never see them again anyway????

They did use shampoo and leave-in (I use the leave-in and the CK) and he did the twirly thing he does. I suspect I won't be doing that over my whole head but will definately continue doing it around my face and in the back where it sometimes lies flat. After he did the twirly thing he picked it up and twisted it and placed a clip in it to make the height.....we'll see how I do?

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. You know, I've seen your photos from when you used to partially straighten your hair and I have to say that curly hair really really suits you. It makes you look so young, fresh and fun. Some day I'd love to go to that salon! Maybe as a treat for a milestone birthday or something.....
