New to Boards 2c with Q's

classytclassyt Posts: 12Registered Users
First off, I think I'm a 2C (will post pics soon) and was wondering if anyone has advice on products and shampoos/conditioners for a 2C with shorter hair (chin length).

Also, can anyone recommend a stylist in the western suburbs of Chicago? I'm thinking of trying Bridget from Cre-8 Salon from as reco'd on these boards.

Lastly, what's the towel that people like? Is it the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-ease-Towel-p-500.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curlease-curlease-towel]curl-ease towel[/buylink]? is it worth it for shorter hair?

    Welcome Classyt.

The Conditioner Chronicles is a great place to start for conditioner.

I haven't used shampoo since I went CG so I have no advice there.

It refers to Lorraine Massey's "Curly Girl" method, and book by the same name. Here is a great synopsis:

    http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=14702

Basically, you don't use sulfates or silicones. Silicones won't come off without sulfates, sulfates strip off all of the oil. Some people do shampoo with poo's without sulfates...they are tricky to find.
Currently, using JC HCC, Too Shea, CK and CCSS, RR or LOOB or MOP-C.
    CK is the one!!

We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names and each is a different color. But they all have to learn how to live in the same box. ~Anonymous

    Hi Classyt:

I'm also a 2c, and I really like the Curlease Towel. It's big and absorbent without creating fuzz or frizz, and it dries faster than t-shirts.

I also use Deva Low-Poo and One conditioner for my 2c hair. Not rubbing the "heck" out of my scalp and hair has really encouraged my curl. (Deva products are made and sold by the salon created by Lorraine Massey, as mentioned in "hopetocurl's" post. Some people hate giving up traditional shampooing habits and go for other brands. I find that my hair stays clean for days now that I use Low-Poo, whereas before I was a daily. Experiment and see what works for you.)

Also, Jessicurl has some nice products, and you can buy either sample or trial sizes, which is really nice, since being a PJ (product junkie) isn't cheap (that's why God created product swap boards for Curly Girls!).

Also, go to the Home page on Naturally Curly and look for salon recommendations. I've had some good luck here in Cleveland by referencing that option. Read the reviews, too. If a stylist has loads of good or great reviews, try her. But don't give a stylist who really mistreated a client another chance (i.e., Marvin at Devachan).

Good luck, and post about your experiences! We all learn from each other, and it's incredibly helpful and informative :albino:

    Best,
    Jennifer

thank you all so much for the responses. i am still a little confused on the not shampooing thing, but i think i get it. at least i get what CG is.

my hair, btw, is THICK as all get out and coarse-ish, and frizzy. my curls tend to be more wavey with some more corkscrew-like curls here and there. i definitely get the lampshade look if i don't have some layers and my hair gets very weighed down the longer it is (curlier when shorter, i think).

i will look into jessicurl and deva products. what about styling products? i've heard a lot of people like [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]AG Recoil[/buylink] and one other one. can those products have silicone and stuff or no?

Typically, no the products do not have silicones in them. I am deciding if I like [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] or not. I do like the Jessicurl products...
