The fabled 18 hour plop

You ladies would never believe me if I didn't have pics to prove it, so go check out my fotki!

Honest to God, I had my hair plopped from my 11pm shower until 5pm the next day, and it worked great for me!!! Now if only I had that kind of time to do my hair every day...:laughing7:

Thanks ladies! I think the reason it worked so well for me is that I have a serious case of hand in hair disease (well, my 11 1/2 month old daughter does, anyway!), and by plopping for that long, my hair pretty much dried in that position without being touched.

I did scrunch really well to make sure my gel was evenly distributed (and when I scrunched, I could hear water squishing around, but it wasn't dripping, so that's how wet it was), and I didn't try to separate the really big clumps with my fingers like I usually do (cuz I can have like three or four clumps on one side and that's it!). So I left them really clumped and made sure that practically all of the plopped hair was almost on my forehead when I went to bed. Also, I use one of DH's old t-shirts, so it's really REALLY soft.

I can't really think of any other tricks I used, other than I put the oil blend in (about 10 drops) before my gel. Of course, I will be trying this again ASAP, and if it works a second time, I'll be using this technique for my daughter's birthday zoo trip on the 29th!

    Yay for bouncy hair!!

Hmmm...try again - I just moved the 18 hour plop pics to their own folder this afternoon, so maybe you were checking when I was moving or just had moved them.

Let me know if you still can't get in - I'll have to see if there's something set wrong.

Holy hairballs, Batman! 18 HOURS?? That's got to be some kind of record. You should call the Guiness Book of World Records...

But the results are stellar! Congrats!

Thanks, Jillipoo!! I was rather pscyched about the results myself!! Hmmm...Guinness, you say? Oh wait - you mean the book people - not the BEER people! :laughing7:

micol124, I have actually never seen the Jessicurl video (I'm on dial up ), but I did see her on Rachael Ray and saw the plopping/plunking demo there. I do it very similar, I think, and I use one of my DHs old t-shirts (size XL). I think the t-shirt is even a 50/50 poly/cotton blend.

Here's my method: I lay out the shirt sort of like I'm about to put it on, flat and with the neck facing away from me. Then I fold the bottom hem up just an inch or two, and I plop as close to the bottom hem as I can, keeping the edge where I need it to be against my forehead. When I feel like my hair is all where I want it to be (piled up in one spot and almost on my forehead, and not spread out), then I reach over my head and grab the neckline and pull that down fairly tight against my head, bringing it to meet the bottom hem. Then I twist the sides together and bring them around the back of my head, crossing them in back and securing them with a big fat ouchless hairtie/binder. Then I just let it sit. And sit. And sit. Apparently for as close to 18 hours as I can get. :toothy7::toothy7::toothy7::toothy7::toothy7:

DH says when I'm plopping, that I could put on a renaissance outfit and go be a bakery wench. :laughing7:

I think you should call the beer people too!

    Looks great!

Well I think I'm going to try it tonight! I don't think I'll be able to do it as long as you (the in laws are coming tomorrow!) but I can at least do it for about 8 or 9 hours. I have to use a t-shirt, too, but I think I'm going to line it w/ my microfiber towel. Unfortunately, my husband is SMALLER than me, so his shirts won't do much for my hair lol! Wish me luck!

Well, it IS the weekend...maybe the beer people can do something to help! :albino:

Late yesterday afternoon/early evening, I cowashed and plopped. I am going to take it down at 2 pm (my haircut is at 3), and at that time, it will have been plopped for 20 hours!!!!!! *lol* I'll try to get pics of it before I go, but I make no promises.

Good luck to all of you who are willing to try it out - make sure to take pics so we can see if it's just a fluke that I can do it, or if it's a mad science!

I want to try plopping overnight again now that I have the Curlease towel; it's so much thinner, so I'm sure it'll be more comfortable to sleep in. I'm just afraid now that I've had the shorter layers cut in that the top is going to be sticking straight up in the air the next day! :tongue5:

Well, I didn't get pics of the 20 hour plop, but it worked almost as well as the 18 hour plop. I think because it's warmer here than it was 2 days ago, that made a big difference in my drying time (humidity was slightly higher).

Anyway, I got my haircut (see the "To layer, or not to layer" thread for the update), and of course, they never style it right, so I'm plopping again right now and will take it down in the morning before I go do laundry. With any luck, I can get DH to take a few pics for me that I can put up in my fotki later tomorrow. That, or he'll just say I'm obsessing over my hair again (DUH!:tongue5:), but take the pics for me anyway. *lol*
