Why do my ends feel like sand???

Why do my ends feel like sand?:

I'm thinking that it's from not deep conditioning on a regular basis, but my ends don't feel sandy until I put product in it (leave-in/gel)...currently PM The Conditioner/Fantasia IC (blue gel).
When I deep conditioned w/ ORS mayo mixed with one egg last week it got worse. It actually made my hair texture feel ROUGH & sandy...I was so scared my hair texture wouldn't bounce back, but after using the VO5 conditioners (not the moisture milk ones) afterwards it was a little softer.

-Maybe it was too much protein (shouldn't have added the egg)...but I had clarified and everything?

-I would rather condition with cassia but I HATE ordering hair stuff online!!!

-Should I be using the clear or pink Fantasia IC gel instead of the blue one or does that make a difference?

I don't know what to do anymore :coffee:

    Like sand?

Do you mean dry or grainy/bumpy?

If you mean dry, you might need to clarify then condition with a more moisturizing rather than protein heavy conditioner. I'm pretty sure that the ORS Mayo has cones in it. When you add protein to that it will build up pretty heavily and your hair might need more moisturizing conditioners than protein intensive ones.

If you mean grainy/bumpy, that could be from little knots on individual strands. I've had that and if I put something with protein on it that coated it, it would feel like bigger knots/grains.

Thank you very much for your response. :happy6: Yeah, it feels grainy like. My ends just feel so rough like sand paper.

-Do you know of any low protein/protein free DEEP conditioners that I don't have to buy online? :blob3:

I rinsed with luke warm water then, clarified (VO5 Kiwi Conditioner) then conditioned with another VO5 moisturizing conditioner (not moisture milks) and my hair was back in bidness :). My ends feel ALOT better. YAAAAAYY!!! Plus, this time I used the clear Fantasia IC gel instead of the blue one!!! :walk: Thanx gurly!

Can you take a close look at the ends? What do they look like?

Because I get these itsy bisty, but still visible knots on the ends sometimes, when I haven't had a trim in quite a while. No amount of deep treatment, moisture or protein helps. I have to get a trim to remove them.

Yeah, I've had those before so I'm thinking that this is different. Well, was different....my hair feels MUCH better now (THANK GOD!). I had clarified and condtioned and put the leave in (PM the conditioner) and gel ...this time I used the fantasia IC clear instead of blue, and what a DIFFERENCE!!! I like the clear much better. :glasses2:
As far as a trim lol, if I trim again I'll be bald. I always cut/trim. I can't keep cutting hair off when the ends feel funny. I just gotta stop being lazy and DEEP CONDITION....I haven't really deep conditioned in approximately 5 months (no kidding)...with the exception of the ORS mayo which I didn't like at all.
I wonder if Paul Mitchell has a good deep conditioner b/c I'm thinking I wouldn't have to use alot like the other brands I've used. B/c with the PM the conditioner, I literally need only a dime size....really a little less for each of 4 sections....I was SHOCKED!!!! So if I could find a deep conditioner like that under their brand I'd be cool. (harlem shakes) :P :walk::happy6:

I'm happy your hair is feeling better. :)

A more moisturizing deep conditioner is Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol. Most cholesterols are protein heavy but this one is veeeeeery moisturizing and tends to make your hair(my hair anyway) silky and easy to detangle. It's only about $3 and can be found easily.

    Good luck! :)

Putting an egg in your hair could leave some residue, no matter how thoroughly you rinsed. I would not do it.

I also noticed as I was smoothing my hair out with my fingers after my first try of Giovanni Leave in, my hair felt very grainy. I then applied my [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink] and then it was fine. Is there protien in the Giovanni? Or, maybe cause my hair was recently coloured twice and needs more deep conditioning?

If you're talking about the Giovanni DIrect Leave in here are the ingredients

    Ingredients

Aqua (Purified Water), Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Oil, Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Oil, Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris) Oil, Birch Leaf (Butela Alba) Oil, Chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis Flower) Oil, Clary (Salvia Sclarea), Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia), Coltsfoot Leaf (Tussilago Fargara), Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium) Oil, Mallow (Malya Sylvestris), Horsetail (Equisetum Arvense) Oil, Soybean Protein (Glycine Soja), Cetyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Tocopherol (*Vitamin E), Trace Minerals, Citric Acid (Corn), Sodium Hydroxymethlyglycinate, Grapefruit Seed (Citrus Derived)

It looks like it has some soybean protein in it. I don't know if that would do harm though b/c it's so low on the list. As far as the [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink], I'm not sure about what ingredients are in there. I can be wrong but doesn't it also have soy protein? (maybe I was looking @ curly q [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]milkshake[/buylink] instead). Maybe it's something really nourishing in that product as oppose to the Giovanni for your hair. I haven't used the product yet, but some curlies have had good results with the G and I think I read about another curly not liking the product. I guess it's true that everybody has different results. :icescream:
My hair hasn't felt grainy since I clarified and stopped using the Biotera leave in conditioner. For me, it could've had alot to do with DT deprivation. However, I haven't DT since the ORS egg incident and my hair still feels better. It probably was what I was using. I dunno, lol. I'm glad your hair isn't grainy anymore (mine too), that's a horrible feeling.:blob7:

I don't know why I was having that grainy feeling either but for the most part my hair is very dry and requires lots of DT.
