Should I keep my appointment at the Natural Hair Salon?

I visited Natural Trend Setters salon in Fort Lauderdale (Click here: http://www.naturaltrendsetters.com/home.html) for a consultation on natural hairstyling options, professional product recommendations, and to make an appointment to get my hair cut into a style. I had been there some years ago and had my hair done, but it had been a few years and I wanted to see if a stylist could give me some advice on styling my 4A hair.

The stylist, someone who was new to me, advised that because my hair was longer and thick, that my hair would look best blown out and then flat twisted. This was the same advice that I was given by another of their stylists 3 years ago. On that day, I had it done. I had to undo my twists at home myself the next day. It was okay, but it wasn't remarkable.

I was surprised that after all of this time, their tune hasn't changed. I was equally as surprised that she suggested that that was my only styling option especially since she said that, "one has to embrace this kind of hair." To me, blowing it out is not "embracing" it. It's damaging to it. Lastly, I really don't want to blowdry it straight right now, unless it's to see how long it is in order to properly cut it into a style.

Maybe I was really hoping that they would be more like what Curve Salon was... Hmmn?...

I made the appointment for the haircut and she put down that she would be doing the blowdrying and flat twists "because it will look so good" on me.

Are there really no other styling options?

Should I keep the hair appointment?

If it's not what you want, no, don't waste the bucks. There's a Florida woman named Afrobella, she has a blog (google it) and she has a post about a great hair cut she got down in FL, don't know what city. She's a 4a

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.

Oh goodness no! That couldn't possibly be your ONLY styling option. You could get that pretty much anywhere. I would definitely cancel the appointment.

That's my thought exactly, Ms Kitty, but then, they are "the premier spot" for natural hairstyling in South Florida. It just doesn't make any sense.

I'm very familiar with Afrobella's site, Suburbanbushbabe, and think she's awesome!. I stumbled across her blog last summer and I remember her story about getting her hair cut by Larramy in GBS, Fort Lauderdale. (Click here to read: http://afrobella.com/2007/05/page/3/.) His curly-hair credentials look pretty good on paper, but truth be told, I liked her "before" pic better than her "after" pic. Maybe that's just me.

I suppose I could stop in and have a consultation though.
