Looking for a new gel

I would love to know what your recommendations are for a strong holding gel that gives shine! Still not 100% what curl type I fall into but I think this is the closest!

I used to use Sebastian Xtah Bondage
However, they discontinued it a few months back and I have yet to find a replacement. Here are some of the things I have tried:
Osmo Essence Resin
Curls Rock (TIGI)
Sebastian Laminates Grip

Wella Gel

My old routine was Biosilk, Bondage, Kenra Hair spray, and my hair used to be amazing! Now everything I used leaves my hair looking frizzy. I like my hair to be slightly crispy/crunchy, but not rock hard. I used to be able to go 3-4 days without washing my hair and it looked great. Now I can't leave the house without it frizzing up.

Any suggestions on super strong, shiny hold?

Have you tried using a leave-in under your gel? If I don't use a leave-in, it doesn't matter what product I use, I end up with frizz. There is also the CK, or JCS C&S that I've used to combat the frizz. I don't have to use CK that often in the winter, but it is a definite must for me in the summer.

Here are some of the gels I've tried - in order of my current fav:
    • Max Green Alchemy sculpting gel (definitely the stronger hold)
    • Max Green Alchemy styling gel
    • Mop Top
    • Aveda Flax Seed and Aloe styling gel (hold is about the same as the Max Green sculpting).
Here is the link for the MGA products:

    Good luck !!

What are CK, JCS, or C&S? Oh, and totally appreciate the responses. I saw you got back to me in the other thread. New to the forums, so not sure what some things mean.
Like you, a total product junkie, although trying to spend less and be more satisfied!!!

There is a VERY good gel to buy at walgreens! It's called La Bella and is only $2. It's cheap but i love it. My curls come out so beautiful. This gel makes my hair curl up better than the expensive kinds!!!

Is this the pink one (lots of curls) gel? I love that gel too, it smells sooo good, like grapefruit. I almost picked another up at walmart yesterday because it said "new" on it, but just at a glance it looks like the ingredients are the same and the packaging might just be very slightly different (cap is a little different and the sides felt a bit more pointy/came to more of a point on the sides).

Looking to try Devacurl Decadence line next! Can't wait to try it.

You can try Tresseme Bouncy Curls. I got it from Walgreens as well for $ 5 i think. I like it alot but leaves no crunch for you to scrunch out so you may not like it. It does form your curls well and i had barely any frizz. Let us know what works for you.

After reading all the recent buzz on these boards lately for Labella, I picked some up today at WalMart for under $2. I absolutely can not believe how much you get for the money! The bottle is HUGE! Can't wait to try tomorrow!!!

Can't wait to hear how you like it! It is probably one of my favorites as far as drug store gels. And, the smell is amazing!

Hockey, I really like the LaBella a LOT! Wrote a comment on the thread on general, the one about not being able to find it.

I am with you, I totally love the smell! I wish it would linger more than it does!

Great stuff, and the price is unreal!

If you want something with super strong hold, the La Bella gel may not be enough for you. The strongest gel I've ever used is ABBA Weightless. If I didn't cut it with some coconut oil to make it softer, my hair would be stiff as a board.

I use Kerastase Mousse Nutri-Sculpt first especially at my roots and work it down through the ends. This is a bodifying hair foundation for dry, sensitised hair. It give my fine limp roots just enough lift and hold. Then I use Arrojo Curl Creme to set my curls. I apply this over all of my hair, not necessarily on the roots though. My hair is usually good for 2-3 days, but if the roots seem to start laying down again, I use a little of the Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo on the roots only. My curls stay good, so I don't have to put a refresher on them. If I put anything wet on them when my hair is dry, it will frizz. Hope this helps. I am also a product junkie, but an not happy about it. Good Luck
