What to people do with their hair at night?

Do nothing and leave it open or cover it with something? (i.e. hair-net, scarf etc.)

I either put a silk cap on or I do a ponytail.

The was wondering because.. if you don't cover your hair or wrap it does it cause breakage? Is this something that you should do when it comes to curly hair when you don't have a special pillow?

i've actually noticed more hair thinning from wearing scarves too tightly so that they wouldn't slip off at night than i ever noticed from sleeping on a cotton pillow case. to be honest, i've never noticed hair breakage or thinning from sleeping directly on a cotton pillow case.

i recently gave up on nighttime scarves after having an on-and-off-again relationship with them.

now, i simply wet my hair in the morning, smooth a bead of shea butter on as a pomade, and tie down my hair for the 20 minutes it takes for me to make my kids' lunches and put on my coat and shoes. i'm left with nice waves that last all day.

at night, i put my hair in two big pocahantas plaits or two giant twists and go beddy bye!

I just sleep on a satin pillow. If my hair was out that day, I sleep with it that way. If it was in a ponytail, I sleep with it in a ponytail.

I noticed that covering my hair at night limits frizz in the morning. I also notice that when I don't cover my hair.. I experience breakage.

I discovered that I get fabulous 2nd day hair when I sleep with a hairnet. I flip and loosely twist and tuck my hair in and put a hairnet over it (like the McDonald Ladies). Next day I fluff ,no water no product nothing.
My hair doesn't like to be wet or anything on washfree days. It took me a while to get that.

I plan on sewing myself a few satin snoods or bonnets too. When I do I could share the pattern.

I guess it's to each its own because initially I slept with a satin bonnet on my head, but now I don't. I just got tired of having something on my head. Now, I just hop in the bed and off to sleep I go. I don't put anything on my head and my pillow cases are all cotton. It has been approximately nine months and I have not noticed an increase of split ends or breakage. I have second, third, and fourth day hair too. On those days, I just get up, fluff, and thats all. My curls are still vibrant. I don't believe in leaving the house with my hair a hot mess either.
