Anyone had hysterectomy and do weights?

I'm a little over one year post op and I'm aiming to gain more muscle. My goal was to gain 20 lbs last year (I gained 15 lbs) and now I'm trying to gain 5 more lbs.
I lost a lot of weight and just didn't feel great two years ago. I now feel better, my health is good, and dr has given me to ok to do what I feel comfortable with but I really don't know where to start at the gym.

I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago, at age 37, and do weights. I used to use a book by Joyce Vedral and use dumbbells. Now I'm using a book called The New Rules of Lifting for Women written by Lou Schuler....
