Wouldn't want to never be able to smile.

I'd take fear and paranoia anyday. At least then I'd be ready for a lot of bad, scary, awful, disgusting, horrible, things to happen to me and my loved ones and innocent people...

Having been at one time in my life constantly depressed, I'll take afraid.

I've been depressed, being afraid has GOT to be better!

I say depressed. Fear can keep you from doing so many things that you can really miss your life. Even depressed you can go outside and appreciate a nice day or go to work or make a stab at having a life. of course I'm oversimplyfying but fear can be paralyzing but even depressed you can kinda make a go of things (I think)

Until you commit suicide or something. :(

Freecurls, that's interesting because for me it works the other way around. Fear galvanizes me into action, depression keeps me under the covers.

Having suffered from both depression and severe anxiety, I can say it's not better (at least from my perspective).

I know for me that my fears, self-doubts etc. can sometimes get the best of me and keep me from trying something I want for fear of failure. Fear that I'll make the wrong decision, fear that I'll make a fool of myself etc. I sometimes really need to push myself because I'm aware that I can't let myself give into my fears but if I did I could become a hermit! :) Seriously not that bad but I can see how fear can lead to cutting a person off from life.

I can be depressed and down and still make myself do stuff but if I'm scared of something, whoa nelly!

Maybe I should be afraid of NOT doing anything, or NOT making any decisions etc. then I'd go out there and take those risks that sometimes scare me.

Edited for fear of typos :)

That's like choosing between $hit and diarrhea. But if I had to choose, I'd rather be afraid.

I picked depressed. I cannot stand to be afraid. I used to not go to horror movies for that very reason. Now I just sit in the audience and scream and scare the he!l out of everyone else too.

Hmmm... I'll keep thinking and maybe put something interesting down here eventually.

I picked depressed because I wouldn't be happy if I lived in constant fear anyway so I'd rather be depressed, at least then I could still be brave.

I hate feeling anxious or scared more than anything, I'd rather be sad.

Having suffered from depression (PPD) & lived w/ fear on a daily basis (DH's 2 deployments to Iraq) I can honestly say that it was easier living with fear.
