Getting a Deva cut at Cala Renee next Friday

And I'm nervous and scared! I scheduled it the same day I have a needle biopsy on my breast -- and I'm more anxious about the hair cut. The breast thing, well I've already had 2 mammograms and an ultrasound. The biopsy is to just take a closer look at some microcalcifications, so I'm pretty okay about that.

I decided since Shelly left Carriage House and Kriya's on maternity leave, that leaves Mindy, the other master stylist who has never cut my hair. As long as I'm going to a new stylist why not go for the Deva cut?

Oh...good luck on both of them (more so on the biopsy but I understand the hair worries!). I almost went there until I found the salon in Amherst (just so much closer to me).

Good luck. Please do send pics. I am trying to grow out my hair some but I do want to get a deva haircut as well. I've never seen the cut on anyone with a tighter texture. I'm interested.

Good luck with the biopsy as well...

I'm sending some good vibes your way.

I would be interested in finding out how you like Cala (especially since you've been to Carriage House). I keep trying to decide if the trek to Beverly is worth it as I keep hearing great things about Cala Renee.

Thanks. I only get my hair cut twice a year so it's not that much of a deal. And if I go in the summer I can stop at the beach LOL. I told them I'm mostly 4a; I figure if Carriage House can handle it so can they. Anyone know what a cut costs up there? No prices on their web site.

Good luck with both .. especially the biopsy. I look forward to hearing about the results of both ... and good thoughts are being sent your way about your upcoming test. I smiled when you said you were more worried about your hair. I'm the same way ... it is such a girl thing - unless their hair is falling out, the guys I know couldn't care less about their locks.

I keep meaning to ask this ... What is the difference between a Devacut and other curly cuts?
My stylist cuts my hair dry, looking at the curl pattern ... is that what a Devacut is?

Hey Sbb, I went in for my cut yesterday with Cala and it was still 55.

I'm so excited for you to go! Both Erin and Cala have amazing curls and they just get so exicted about cutting curly hair. I had a hard time driving home because I kept trying to look at my hair in the mirror, lol. I hope you love it there.

I would imagine you'd get a good cut if the stylist cut it dry - I think there are stylists out there that may not necessarily be deva-trained, but could give a good curly cut anyway....I would ask if she's deva-trained...

Biopsy went well, I get the results on Monday. I'm not expecting any surprises as they are just microcalcifications. The worst thing about it was the pre-fear, the sting and slight burning of the topical anesthetic, and the feeling of liquid (some of it blood) drippng down my torso LOL. But enough about the biopsy.

Let me know what you think about the cut. It rained like a mutha today -- lightning and thunder. Posting 3 photos here, and a few more in my fotki here

Pre-cut photo (wish photos were a bit smaller, sorry). I washed with Wen and only used [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]Knot Today[/buylink]. They said I could use light product.
    IMG_2315-vi.jpg

Right after cut and style at the salon. Hair is very springy and fell right back into place but felt producty. Cala used B'leavein and ArcAngell. She used the clips, and I watched carefully so I could use them the same way. My face is shiny from being under the dryer.
    IMG_2320-vi.jpg

You know all that product was coming out when I got home.
Here it is rinsed, Aveda Elixir and gel, dried and fluffed. Not the greatest shot and I missed a gap in the back, but I love the shape and crown height. And my ends feel great!
    IMG_2338-vi.jpg

Since I hadn't cut in 5 months I asked Cala about the state of my ends, and she said there were splits on the outer layer at the crown but otherwise things looked good. So I'm continuing the oil rinsing and baggying.

P.S. I've gotten all good cuts from the Carriage House and they cut wet. If you don't want the carving and slicing, tell them and they won't (the price goes down too LOL). They also styled my hair better than I can, but they do use Curlisto which has a few small cones way down the list. I recommend Mindy if anyone goes there. I was going to Shelly and Kriya. Shelly left for I don't know where, and Kriya's on maternity leave (I recommend her too). They are all master stylists. I think I styled my hair better than Cala did, but I really like the cut.

A Deva cut is done by stylist certified by Devachan salon in New York, owned by Lorraine Massey. The cut is done on dry hair and shapes and individual curls are cut rather than hair being combed and stretched through fingers and the ends cut across in a straight line.

I really appreciate everyone's comments -- thank you!
