A few questions about Shea Moisture

Thinking about picking up a bottle for both myself and my SIL. Have some questions for those of you already on the wagon....
  • what does it smell like? (this is of MAJOR importance. It's my hair.)
  • what part of the application process are you using it
  • what products work best with it?
  • is your hair in better/worse/the same shape since using it?
  • would you re-purchase when your bottle runs out?
Hope y'all are all doing well....Merry Christmas, Happy Hanakkah, Happy Kwanzaa....and anything else that may be going on!!

I agree with what mysteryflavored wrote. I use it in the shower as a leave in the same way she does. Lately I've been using it under Regis Curl Cream and I've had great curl formation and softness in my hair (no frizz, no flat/limp hair). Normally leave in's are too much for my hair but it loves this stuff. I've also noticed that the smell is gone from my hair once it's dry. I'm a 3a if that helps you.

Hi Mystery & Mass....thanks for responding. I'm a big Jessicurl fan, but since jumping ship from "sleeping around" with any product I could find (LOL) I haven't gotten those nice FAT ringlets I used to get. And that was only if the stars were aligned correctly and a lot of other wierd stuff did/didn't happen...who knows what causes those nice FAT frizz-free ringlets. Do y'all think this is something I could incorporate into the Jessicurl regimen, or should I think about getting some stronger gel than [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]CCSS[/buylink] since that doesn't have major hold.

Thanks again to you both for your help! I think I'll try to get some from Beauty of New York! Mass, you say you haven't made a dent, huh? I'm also a 3A, between chin and shoulders, but I always considered my hair "thin". The hairs are fine, but I'm finding that it's thicker than I give it credit for. How much do you use?

I've used SheaM with Jane Carter Condition&Sculpt and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Confident-Coils-Styling-Solution-p-116.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-confident-coils-styling-solution]Jessicurl Confident Coils[/buylink] as stylers on top with really great results. I think there are a few photos in my fotki.

My hair is 3a/b, moderately textured and pretty thick, but short. I use about a thumbnail-sized blob, or about a 1" ribbon. As long as I rub it between my palms first and apply it to soaking wet hair, I have no problems distributing it.

Thanks. (: But my bad hair days go up in headbands, not on fotki. :P

I use the same amount as mysteryflavored - about an inch long ribbon. My hair is VERY thick but short. 3a with 3b tendencies. I have fat curls (sort of like shirley temple curls).

    • what does it smell like? (this is of MAJOR importance. It's my hair.) To me, smells like that Curl Junkie candy smell (hibiscus/banana leave-in)
    • what part of the application process are you using it - leave-in before gel
    • what products work best with it? Angell, AOMM, Alagio, PM Round Trip
    • is your hair in better/worse/the same shape since using it? Same shape; styling was greatly enhanced in the summer humidity; works in winter too.
    • would you re-purchase when your bottle runs out? Already have

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.

    • what does it smell like? (this is of MAJOR importance. It's my hair.) I like the smell - sweet but not overpowering.
    • what part of the application process are you using it I put in right after I am done with my shower.
    • what products work best with it? I pretty much use it under CK and then a gel (whichever one out of the 100s I have to pick from). I have also put a curl cream over it with decent results as well
    • is your hair in better/worse/the same shape since using it? My hair was in pretty decent shape before so the same
    • would you re-purchase when your bottle runs out? I dont think I will ever run out - I did move it to a tub for easier use. I only use a pea size or so - I have shoulder length thin/fine hair. 3A. I was surprised that I could use this (curlyincolorado convinced me to try it). I had not had any type of luck with putting a conditioner as a leave in the past but this works well and does not weigh my hair down at all.

SBB - I checked out your Fotki - looks like you get some pretty good definition with SM and the Jane Carter stuff....thanks to Mystery Flavored, I ordered those two from Beauty of New York last night. So - what's this "Homemade Butter" you speak of? Do tell!

Xcptnl - OMG - keep using the Deva line - or whatever technique you photographed in the last pic of your Fotki - those curls most closely resemble my "best" hair day - huge clumpy ringlets. Very nice - my stylist used Deva on me at the salon, and sadly, I hated the stuff - made my hair feel WAAAAY too producty and sticky in the Houston humidity. If I correctly saw SNOW in the background of that photo, then you probably don't have the humidity issue I deal with here - keep using the Deva - hair looks great!

Thank you Texas Mama - that made my day. Yep-you saw snow! I have had issues with Deva too but I have found using the SheaM before any Deva products ([buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-BLeave-In-p-434.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-bleavein]B'leave in[/buylink] and Angell are the two I use after SheaM then some Set if Free when dry) works very well!

    Hey There T.M.
I love the SheaM conditioner. The smell is sweet, but not overpowering. It is really thick, but spreads easily in your hair.
I seldom have a bad hair day with it.
It seems to prevent normally very crunchy products from getting so crunchy. I never have any frizz when I use it and almost always get great curls.
I put it in right after I turn off the water in the shower. My hair is still dripping wet.
As far as what I use with it, I'm a PJ that rotates products constantly ... so it depends on the day. I always put my leave-ins before I put anything else though.
I'll definitely re-purchase .. for the price (best one I've found is beautyofnewyork.com) you can't beat it.
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
