HeatherNicole I can't believe how long your hair is! Wow your straight hair looks beautiful. Isn't it great that you can go from curly to straight back to curly? I love it.

Your hair is looking good, girlie! It seems like everyone is having the itch to straighten, because I just did on Friday. LOL! Its funny because you think your hair hasnt grown much until you straighten it out.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

Eccentric, your hair has been and still is beautiful and yes it is so crazy how much your hair seems to "grow" after you've straightened it. You never notice a couple of inches of growth when it's curly. It is great to have the option.

Thanks to both of you. I'm going to try my hardest not to get the cut itch. I'm getting the ends trimmed today. I'm really hoping the back can catch up with the front and reach armpit length too within the next few months. I'd like for it to be there atleast by May when I have to be the maid of honor for one of my best friend's weddings.

Girl.....I get scissor happy whenever I straighten. LOL! I cut an inch Friday, then cut some more on Sunday. And I'm sure before I wash it out, I'll probably cut it again. The more I cut, the movement I get. And because I'm at the point where length isn't as important as health, cutting it isn't that big of a deal anymore. Though I'm not going to lie and say I don't like the length. :D

No, I totally know what you mean about movement. When my hair gets to that "it's not doing anything" phase that's when I start going, "Maybe bangs would be a good idea again." Or "ooo I really want that cut." I swear my hair should've been to bras strap length by now if I didn't get so damned frustrated with it. I like variety.

Maybe now that I'm natural and my hair seems to be growing at a faster rate, I won't be so anal about cutting my hair. The longest I've gone without a haircut is 2 yrs and honestly it would've been longer but a relaxer made my hair fall out and uneven.

I think you bought have beautiful hair, curly or straight. Not only that, but it looks soooo healthy! How many yrs has it been since the BC for both of you?

Thanks lady! I did a semi BC in Summer 03. I transitioned over a year before cutting the last 3-4 inches off in Aug 03.

I haven't had a perm since I was 12 so that was over 10 years ago. I remember my hair breaking really badly and crying cause my hair was brastrap length all the way around. Since then I've had my hair cut like 4 times. The shortest was 4 years ago and it wasn't even long enough to put in a ponytail. I've had it cut and extensively trimmed several times since then too though. I'm really determined to grow it out this time though. I just hate when it gets to that length where it feels like it's not doing anything.

HN and EC, the hair is looking so good. HN, I love the height and volume you got with your flat iron. I wish there was an flat iron video or something.

EC, love the color the brown mixed in with the black.

HN, your hair really does look good in either form.
I straightened my hair yesterday and was shocked at the length. My hair while relaxed, never ever got past the my collar bone and it is definitely beyond that now!

I wanted to make a comment about how hair grows since I've seen a lot of others make mention of hair "catching up" to with another part. Unfortunately hair does not grow that way.
If anyone wants their hair to be even all around then they will have to cut it.
technically your hair "is" even; if you were to hold it out at a 90 degree angle you would see that it's all the same length -(a picked out afro would demonstrate this).
Since hair is usually worn in a downward angle (closer to a 45 degree angle) it appears that hair is uneven or layered.

In some cases hair really is uneven, but even in those cases if all of your hair continues to grow then none of it will ever catch up b/c once one part gets to 7 inches (for example), the other part will have grown beyond the 7 inches. (hope this isn't confusing)

anyway, I hope I can get my hair to grow as nicely as yours and by the way -Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays to you too. And thanks for the compliments.

I realized I'd have to cut it to make it all be even, I just mean the front has always been cut for face framing or bangs, and I just want it to get as long as the rest of my hair, but yeah I do understand that. My crown area is shorter than the rest, and now it's finally starting to catch up with trims and what not. Hair, much more difficult than it should be lol.

SBB- Thanks, luckily my hair is just big on its own and will probably never get flat. Those pics weren't right after I had flat ironed, they were the day after I took it down from my wrap. Flat ironing really is just practice. I just checked you tube for a good tutorial, but I don't like how any of the people do theirs and I also didn't see anyone using a damned heat protectant. However, here are a couple ones I like. First one because, She blow dries her hair similar to mine. I don't go too much for straightening it. She also uses a brush to make sure the hair is getting straight, I do this with a rattail comb though.

I like this second girl cause her hair sectioning reminds me more so of my own.

Yeah I used to get my hair pressed professionally, but when I went off to undergrad I started doing it myself, then around sophomore year I started flat ironing.
