Ok Ladies and The Odd Guy Here And There:

I don't want to become a PJ. I don't. I know it would become a sinkhole for my limited college student funds and I like my hair just fine. Buuuuutttt....

I'm currently thinking about getting:

Batia & Aleeza gel
Herbal Essences Set Me Up/ Body Envy/ Totally Twisted (Gel? Mousse? What are people using here? I don't even know, I just see it mentioned all the time and I'm curious!)

Any thoughts? What should I get if I were only going to try one or two? What are the pros/cons of each of these as compared to each other? I'm more or less CG, if that matters, and I love my current cheapie mousse, thought Angell was alright when I used it, and absolutely hated [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Rockin-Ringlets-Styling-Potion-p-100.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-rockin-ringlets]Jessicurl Rockin' Ringlets[/buylink].

HEBE (gel) gives me the biggest clumpiest curls of the drug store brands. I like to alternate that with the CK and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink] combo. I never tried the B & A gel, so I can't comment on that.

To save money, start with the HE gels and see if they work for you. Save the CK, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]re:coil[/buylink], and B & A for gift ideas or for if the drugstore gels aren't effective.

Good luck resisting the lure of the PJ! :toothy7:

You only need a little bit so the tube lasts a very long time. The downside is, it is heavy and can weigh the hair down and some people can't use it everyday because of the magnesium sulfate in the ingredients.

CK is awesome! It is a great frizz fighter and also a curl enhancer. I have had limited success using it alone (but some people do) and it works great with a gel. It is the one product i use almost every day. The down side is you have to use a lot of the product to get results, so the bottle doesn't last that long.

B&A gel is a light hold gel. It is very liquidy. It does have protein if that is an issue.

The HE gels were just okay for me but the price is right and they are easily available.

Ask for a Curlmart gift certificate for Christmas

Thanks you two! I think I'll hold off for a bit, try the HE first and see what happens.

I'm loving [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]Ag re:coil[/buylink] and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl Keeper[/buylink], I don't use them everyday but when I do I love my hair. I don't like the B%A gel at all, it's watery, yet feels sticky and feels like I put nothing in my hair. In the HE line I've had the best luck with Totally Twisted.

I only got so-so results with recoil. I may have used it wrong, but I won't reorder. CK works well, but I only use it when it's humid outside (for me winter when it's really foggy). I personally love the B&A gel (I thought I'd hate it because it is so liquidy, but it works great for me). I'm out and a bit tapped, so I'm using up my HETT (works pretty well, but I wish I had some Body Envy to compare it to) and my Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee. I'd agree to start with HE and see how you like, then ask for cift certificates from Curlmart. And good luck with the PJ - it takes on a life of it's own!

I can't try many products because of the international shipping rates, so I've to manage with the ones that are available here. HE Body Envy is one of those! I use both the mousse and gel but I find the gel gives me better curls and does a good job with the frizz.
