Henna was drying now soft

Just wanted to inform you all that I have been using Henna since August and my hair was dry and tangled, but I continued bcs I like the color. Now I found out it was bcs I was putting a 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar in it. I reduced it to 2 TBls and added 1 TBls of Honey and a raw egg. Now my hair is sooo soft and untangled.

*On another note I was doing all that for the color and will have to go dark again bcs the Henna is only keeping my previously colored hair bright and my new growth is still dark. -I will post pics when I go darker.

I had that problem when I did my first henna treatment. It was caused by adding too much ACV. I will cut back the next time I use it. And hopefully that will help a lot.

I'm sure the henna is coloring your darker hair, but the coloring effect is very subtle. It probably shows up better on your lighter, colored hair. My hair is medium brown, and you can really only see the henna effect in sunlight or on the handful of gray hairs scattered around my head (they come out orange-red!).:)

Thanks for the encouragement. I love my hair colored and it looks great down. But I don't like having a two-toned ponytail (black roots, red pony). I might wait a minute to go dark bcs they say henna is like coffee in a coffee cup (the more you put it in, the bolder the stain).

I have this problem. I put Henna in my hair for the first time on Wednesday and washed it out on Thursday and moisturized only to wake up this morning and my hair was so dry and tangled. I mixed 200g henna with lemon juice and 1 tsp of honey, nowhere near enough. Next time I think I'll add 2 tbs of honey. How does the egg work? Do you add the whole egg or just the white or yolk?

How much lemon juice did you use, enough to make your henna into a paste? That's probably what dried out your hair. Try using a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice or ACV diluted in some warm water - 1 to 1.5 cups. The lemon water will still have enough acidity to release the henna dye and it won't dry out your hair. I use 100g of henna for my short hair, and 1 TBS ACV diluted in 1 cup of water. I might try lemon juice instead of the ACV next time (ACV+henna = funky smell, LOL).

As far as honey, I add enough to my dye-released henna to think out the paste a little, maybe a couple of tablespoons. I don't measure it, I just eyeball the consistency.

ETA: I just realized you're from London, so excuse my Americanized measurements, LOL!

I was very overzealous with the lemon juice. Next time I'll try a few tbs lemon juice. I was really excited about the colour change I was like a witch mixing potions in a cauldron :laughing2:.
    Tnx preciousjewel76
Btw: what do ETA stand for? I'm usually good with guessing abbreviations but I'm totally stumped. Measurements are fine, Im sure we all use them in England :? however I'm not 100% sure. lol

ETA = "edited to add". Sorry for all the confusion!:toothy7:

I just crack an egg and stir it into the mix. Someone recommended that from hennaforhair and it works.

I wish I had read this sooner. I had mixed up some henna the other day and I just applied it to my hair. I used less ACV, added in some AVG and Honey. Next time I will add an egg to it. Thanks for that tip!

Used henna for the first time the other day, talk about beautiful results...i'll post some pics soon, but I am so happy I did it, I kinda used my own measuring skills, I used henna, lemon juice( from the bottle), and a bit of honey and a bit of jamaican all spice.........perfect results

My hair turned out much softer this time. However I still have to do a nice DT afterwards to restore the moisture. The ACV still has an effect on my hair even though I used less of it. But it is not as drying as it was the first time.

But the advantages of the Henna far outweigh that small inconvenience.
