Clumping Curls

I hope this isn't a dumb question but how do people clump their curls together? Does it make the hair appear bigger?

I use conditioner and curl activator to get my curls to clump. And of course soaking wet hair. At first I wasn't getting the hang of it, I think wrong products, and my hair was just a frizzy mess. I was combing it too. Maybe that was it. I had to learn to keep my hands out of my hair. The clumping, for me anyway, makes my curls more uniform. When my curls separate they frizz. I hope this answers your question

I been using fantasia gel it seems to work to clump the curls very well. I also agree with the combing. For me when I combed my hair even with a very wide tooth comb my curls didnt clump the same way, so now I finger style my hair.

Thanks ladies! Afterwards, do you airdry or use a hood dryer?

I recently discovered how to clump.
I have to use some kind of gentle cleanser. I use Aubrey Organics Island Naturals. I condition and detangle. Then I rinse off. Add my leave in scrunching it in and add the right amount of gel. All in the shower/ All scrunched in. Don't touch the hair once I step out of the shower.

Co washing gives me gross curls and even worse scalp.
Not scrunching in the shower gives me mixed results
KC custard out of the shower gives me skinny curls.
Products like JC nourish and shine give me gross curls. I use this for overnight treatment.
Shea butter gives me gross curls. Although when I first started cg, it was great.

For me I leave in lots of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]Jessicurl aloeba[/buylink] and finger comb and that does it. If I do apply any product or gel (rarely) I make sure I do it to soaking wet hair.

I airdry. I don't have patience for the hood. I don't know what I'm going to do come winter but I'll cross that bridge when it gets here.

My curls clumped beautifully last night in the shwr. I'm a newbie and have been using the EVOO/honey/CO treatment, shea butter, and, this past week, the elasta qp mango. I ran out of co and didnt want to spend my family's cellphone-bill money on it. I had like 2floz left.

I could not CO wash. So I add the tiny leftoever to EVOO and Honey. I add water and shake the jar a lot. I detangle the hair in small sections and then detangle again with a narow tooth comb. OMG! it was beautiful. I did not touch it until i had to go 2 bed. I had to put all up in small buns.

well it's a totally different method for me. i do my hair once week and this is what i do...i hop in the shower, poo/treat/condish and comb/detangle. next i squeeze the water out of my hair and i don't use a towel on my hair. i spray my coconut oil/water mixture as a leave in condish. i spread a lil more coconut oil through my hair, clip my hair up and start the applying product from the bottom and go up. i mix my products (honey, gel, styling creme) in my hand and start putting it in my section, spray it with more oil/water and comb it through with a wide tooth comb. i spray that section again and then move up to the next section and start it all over until all my hair has product in it. i spray my hair all over with the oil/water, diffuse and shake my hair with my fingers to break the curls apart on the cool setting and air dry the rest of the day.

i know my clumping comes from a few factors like combing my products through my hair. at first that didn't work for me but i tried it again and got amazing results. the coconut oil also helps my hair to clump together as well as the honey. also my gel is what gives my hair the control it needs so that it doesn't frizz out into a puff. i barely have any frizz. doing this routine is great for me because my hair will last a week, all i need to do is spray with some oil/water to revive the curls for the next day and i'm out the door.

anoxia, try a diffuser, it really saved me in the winter and it really helps get the hair to dry alot faster than sitting under a hooded dryer. the diffuser is also good for keeping away the frizz when the hair dries.

Ya know the diffuser frizzes my hair out. I typically diffused with my head flipped over and running the diffuser through the hair quickly in order to dry it. Frizz city man.

aww i'm sorry curlydst, do you use the finger attachment or the bowl while styling with your own fingers? i have a bowl diffuser and use my own fingers. try diffusing on the cool setting for about 10-15 mins and then air dry to see what happens. you don't always want to diffuse to fully dry because it will dry you out and give you frizz. on those days where you're in a rush or it's cold, diffuse til dry or almost dry. just keep working and tweaking your routine, i'm sure you'll figure it out :)
